Description

One of the most unique & strange recordings ever made!! This is the rare first issue Andromeda Strain Electronic Soundtrack LP, with Hexagon shaped record and silver foil cover. Only 10,000 of these records were pressed in 1971. Robert Wise, the director, requested that the record be hexagonal shaped in line with the germ from space in the movie's plot. The foil cover's very unique feature is a circle of folding petals designed to emulate a camera's shutter when properly refolded. Very few covers survive with all the petals intact like this one!! When opened the petals reveal wonderful black & white stills from the film. Instructions are included for proper folding.

The music is an astounding electronic score by French composer Gil Melle!! "One of the earliest innovators in the electronics area is Melle. Working with electronics since 1959, Melle has developed his own concepts & compositions, instruments & devices." History of a Revolution by Carter Herman

I would rate the cover as a VG as all the petals are present. The foil has wear & creases on the shutter petals as evident in the photos. The vinyl is near MINT!! Shiny like new & sounds great!!
