Description
Young Marble Giants were a post-punk band formed in Cardiff, Wales in 1978. Their music was based around the vocals of Alison Statton along with the minimalist instrumentation of brothers Philip and Stuart Moxham. Their early sound was a sharp contrast with the more aggressive punk rock that dominated the underground at the time. Young Marble Giants only released one full-length studio album, 'Colossal Youth', on the Rough Trade label in 1980. Here it is. They made a huge impression but never followed it up. 'Colossal Youth' was recorded in five days at Foel Studios, located near Welshpool in North Wales. The group had no prior knowledge of formal music production and as a result the production on Colossal Youth was kept deliberately simple, with the band using many of their first takes on the record and employing minimal overdubbing. According to respected music critic Richie Unterberger, Colossal Youth is "one of the most highly regarded indie cult post-punk recordings, with a unique hushed and minimal atmosphere." Nirvana singer-songwriter Kurt Cobain said in a 1992 Melody Maker interview that Colossal Youth was one of the five most influential records he had ever heard. Now you can own a copy of the original album for a very reasonable price in a reasonable condition...….
