Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP $4.00 Media; 2-4 discs $5.00; .50 each additional disc Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   CANADA ~ 1 LP 8.50; 2 discs $10.00; 3 discs $11.50; over 4 please contact us for shipping costs.   AUSTRALIA, THAILAND, JAPAN ~ 1 LP $18.00; 2 discs $23.00; 3 discs $27.00; 4 discs $32.00.  MINTY CLEAN 1970 BRITISH FOLK ORIGINAL See: PENTANGLE

  JOHN and BEVERLEY MARTYN

         ROAD TO RUIN

USA - (OLIVE GREEN) - WARNER BROTHERS - WS 1882

TOP CLEAN 1970 first pressing by John and Beverly Martyn, a British folk duo highlighted by their compelling compositions laced up nicely with weaving (vocal) melodies...

Beverley Martyn at the age of 16 recorded her first single "Babe I'm Leaving You" which was released on the Parlophone label in 1965. She was then signed as a solo artist to the Deram Records label. In 1966 she was taught the guitar by the folk guitarist Bert Jansch who also encouraged her songwriting. Closely involved with the folk scene at the time, she met Paul Simon who invited her to New York where she contributed to the track "Faking It" on the Simon & Garfunkel album, Bookends--she's the one who says in the middle of the song: "Good morning, Mr Leitch, have you had a busy day." She later appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival on June 16, 1967. In 1969 she met, and later married, UK folk scene-ster John Martyn. As a duo they issued two albums, "Stormbringer!" and "The Road to Ruin" which is pleasant folk rock album very much in the same vein as Nick Drake's Bryter Layter. Not a huge surprise since much of the same personnel appear on this album. As always Joe Boyd's production and John Wood's recording sound immaculate. Recommended to fans of this sound. This album ranges through all kinds of feeling, from upbeat to quite harrowing. It's up there with Martyn's best late sixties/early seventies work, and his then-wife Bev's voice is just wonderful - lilting and sensitive, tending to be more expressive than Martyn's more laid back singing. "Auntie Aviator" is right up there with Nick Drake's best - like "At the Chime of a City Clock," for instance - brooding, haunting, and intense. The album overall is more upbeat, however. If you like Nick Drake, the Pentangle, Fred Neil, early Fairport Convention, etc. you should definitely pick this up...
