Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates.       "Take Me To The Mountains"

USA - Lime green Capitol - ST 538

.......................................................................................................

A special copy this one, we scored it from Shiva's Headband group founder Spencer Perskin recently at the Austin Texas Record convention. This is HIS copy.

RARE and sought after ... 1969 ORIGINAL first pressing by legemdary rated hippie psych band, SHIVA'S HEADBAND...

On the rare and highly collected lime green Capitol label which was only in production (with lime label) some 18 months, making Lp's like Shiva's Headband very scarce some 50 years later....In shifting through thousands of records we find originals of this LP far less than many other similar "rare" ones.

The group was the house band at the Vulcan Gas Company, the late 1960s legendary hippie Austin nightclub. The band is credited with a significant role in the founding of the Armadillo World Headquarters and Shiva's Headband was also the first band to perform there. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, the band played with a zillion different touring acts including Spirit, Steppenwolf, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat, Steve Miller and countless more.

Austin psychedelic bands contemporary to Shiva's Headband included The 13th Floor Elevators and The Conqueroo.

Shiva's Headband Capitol Records album, Take Me To The Mountains, produced by bandleader Spencer Perskin, became the first record released nationally by an Austin-based rock band.

The cover art is very surreal and striking, only hinting at the sounds from within. Take Me To The Mountains is a wild. unique and woolly mixture of psychedelia, rural, blues, hippie-rock, folk, Tex-Mex and rock -- for those looking for that something special and different. Vocals are mainly sung by Spencer Perskin with his wife Suzy taking the occasional lead, as heard wonderfully on the blues rock stomper Homesick Armadillo Blues.

The playing on this record is tight, care-free and fun, few records from the 1960’s – early 1970’s are so laid back and joyous. Their first original song is here, written by leader Spencer Perkin and titled "Kaleidoscoptic," on an acid trip he took while Shiva's Headband played the great ballrooms in San Francisco. Elsewhere, Ripple is a good example of this approach, highlighted by some great, icey blues guitar playing. Some of the rural-rock numbers are real classics too. Take a listen to Take Me To The Mountains and My Baby for that real, reckless spaced- cowboy feel. The psychedelic high point is without a doubt Song For Peace with Suzy’s organ dominating this hypnotic, drifting psych masterwork. This song was released as a single in the late 60’, a different trippier recording - even more psychedelic than this wonderful Lp version.

There are no weak tracks on this record which really carves out it’s own sound. The production of Take Me To The Mountains works really well too, in a bare bones minimalist way. It’s important to note that Spencer Perskin is one of Austin’s most popular musicians having established Armadillo Headquarters.

In 1971 Shiva released a private press album titled Coming To A Head ... watch for that local-only Austin Texas pressing.

CONDITION: The cover:  rated: "EX" (excellent) hard to find in any shape these days, band leader Spencer Perkins took relatively good care of this, his personal copy, and remains in solid/collectible condition. The classic acid art front cover with original rich full color-tones; there are no bends, no split seams, no writing, no delete marks ...The group photo back cover is slightly aged but clean. Hard to find without issues to the wear-prone front cover (usually w/ cover wear) ...here's a legendary Austin Texas artifact previously owned by the Shiva's Headband founding member.

The vinyl: Rated: near M- TOP COPY, handled with steady hands, near 50 years old! Both sides are full of bright clean shine, and plays with outstanding audio, there are no issues. Both lime-green Capitol labels are spotless, no writing, dirt or soil, etc.
