Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates.                                       USA  - lime green CAPITOL  - ST 236

RARE & sought.... Original 1969 first pressing on the lime green Capitol label that was only in print some 18 months...

"Noah" was never reissued, mysteriously the LP Bob Seger hated, so it was never brought back to life as a reissue. That's unfortunate, being a great album, and as a result, decent condition copies have been spotted as high as $150+ in collector circles ... but much of the story behind the album has never entirely been explained ...one thing for certain, the album contains 6+ minutes of one of the The Seger Systems' weirdest trips, called "CAT" ~ a psycho screamin Seger howler if there ever was....

Bob Seger suffered a bit of a breakdown shortly after Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, so he decided to bring Tom Neme, a guitarist/vocalist, into the Bob Seger System to help lighten the load and share the burden. Thing is, Neme wound up taking over the band. It's hard to tell whether Seger endorsed his mutiny or if he was just so disinterested that he didn't put up a fight, but all the same, the second Seger album, Noah, is one strange affair. Neme replicates Seger's hard-driving rock songs several times throughout the album. Of course, Seger can still tear it up with "Innervenus Eyes," and he delves deeper into darkness than he ever has with the weirdly intense, claustrophobic closer, "Death Row."

Noah introduces a twist when The Bob Seger System featured this cat named Tom Neme as a singer/songwriter working together with Seger. To be fair, Neme isn't half bad as a role player, but he's a far, far cry from Seger. One man (Seger) is destined for greatness, and you can hear it in every syllable; Neme is just working up the vinyl. Seger has said that Neme was hired onto 'the Seger System' as a musician when Seger decided he couldn't sing and play guitar at the same time.

Seger: "...we got this guitar player named Tom Neme. And then Neme came up with all these songs that he wanted to do. At that point, I was really tired. I wanted to quit. That was when I enrolled in college....

"I didn't have anything to do with that album. 'Noah,' the song, and one or two others, I wrote, a lot of it during that long break between albums."

The great cover photo of Seger, presumably taken in an alley in Ann Arbor

The liner notes try to explain the appearance of Neme the Usurper: "THE BOB SEGER SYSTEM -- FIVE! The first album was trio, this album is more in many respects. It's more sound, it's more guts, it's more soul and it's more conflict..."Conflict between two very different types of music. Side 1 is Bob Seger -- moody, dynamic, human." ... "Side 2 is influenced by Tom Neme, a new and important addition to The System. It is this influence that is creating change. Seger will always be Bob Seger, any change must come from The System and Tom Neme."

Tracks:

The album contains four songs with a Seger writing credit: "Noah" (with the memorable and late-'60s-era phrase "re-synthesize your own ego") and "Death Row," both of which Seger wrote alone, along with "Innervenus Eyes" and "Cat," credited to Seger, Honaker and Perrine.

"Innervenus" is an absolute killer rocker with terrific Seger vocals. "Death Row" is also a powerful rocker. Since it was the flip of "2+2=?," it may have been a holdover from the first album. It certainly seems to have a different production quality.

Neme's "Lonely Man" is also classic, for one reason: Seger does the vocals. The same is not true, however, on other Neme cuts, such as "Jumpin' Humpin' Hip Hypocrite" -- it's just ridiculous to hear Seger doing the back-up vocals on this.

"Cat" is a long (6:20) jumbled, overdubbed psych-out with drums and studio effects, centered around the singer's attempt to pick up a clueless hippie girl named Cat. The words -- you can't call them lyrics -- could have been improvised during the recording session; the delivery goes from ultra cool and hip to gettin'-it-on orgasmic grunts and moans all frayed in a dense beat with percussions and effects, a real howler within the 6+ minutes.

Seger: "'Noah' is about...'Lay back, you've had your fun. Let them do it for a while.'
