"Outsideinside " is Blue Cheer's second LP, released by Philips Records in August 1968. Its tracks were recorded both outdoors and indoors - hence the title of the album. The record's tracks feature contributions from all members...

"Outsideinside" was produced by Abe "Voco" Kesh and engineered by Eddie Kramer, who had worked with The Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Rolling Stones. The album's cover painting is by "Arab", and was designed by "Gut," legendary Hells Angel. The album photographs were taken by famed rock photographer Jim Marshall. Outsideinside was the last record to feature the original Blue Cheer line-up, as Leigh Stephens left the band after the album was released.

Blue Cheer's bombastic debut, Vincebus Eruptum, made their position clear. They may have hailed from San Francisco and named themselves after one of Owsley's lesser known LSD appellations, but rather than embracing The Summer Of Love, they signalled its death knell. Hitting a dizzy Number 11 spot in the Billboard charts and characterised by their pounding overkill version of  "Summertime Blues", it was a veritable buffet of bludgeon.

Outsideinside saw the Cheer stretch out, recording parts of it on Sausalito's harbour front and on the New York pier (apocryphally, to save studio equipment from their destructive volume), and adding greater lashings of melody to their fuzzed-out arsenal. "Sun Cycle", "Just A Little Bit" and "Gypsy Ball" bear testimony to the band's devotion to Hendrix and indulge in the newfound luxury of stereo-panning. "Come And Get It" gives the MC5 a run for their money, while the fantastically titled "Magnolia Caboose Babyfinger" is an all out fuzzed-psycho monster to be reckoned with.

Hoping to emulate the impact of Vincebus...'s Summertime Blues, Dickie Peterson and Co strapped on a rapacious take on The Stones' 'Satisfaction', taking it into new jammiong heavy psych territory. Outsideinside, remains a crowning glory whose significance and influence has grown in the intervening four decades.
