Description

Up for auction is a very unique Beatle item, the “White” album with a bright orange florescent sticker that lists all the album’s songs. These stickers are rare because they were only used for a short period of time. The original concept of this landmark album was to not list the songs on the outer cover, which as far as I know had never been done before. The Beatles felt that the album would sell on it’s own merit because,  well …they were the Beatles. But Capital USA, never being true believers, decided to play it safe and started issuing the album with a variety of stickers. In Bruce Spizer’s book “ The Beatles On Apple Records”, he has examples of five different stickers but not the one that is on this album. In a reply to an email I sent him he said that at the time he published his book he was unaware of this particular sticker until after his book was published. He was made aware of it by a reader and it is now included in his book “Swan Song”. (I’ll be referring to Spizer throughout this description.)
The Sticker: Measures 6”x5”. It’s looks to me as if someone peeled the sticker off the cellophane and repasted it onto the album cover because of the ridges on the label and the ¾” tear on the upper right hand corner. I don’t know if Capital put these labels on the cellophane or directly on the album covers themselves.
The Jacket: This album’s number is 0864900. Condition is VG. Typical used, but not abused, album cover with noticeable ring wear and some yellowing, mostly on the back. The major problem with the jacket is someone used white tape to reinforce the whole length of the top and bottom edges of the album.
The Records: Record 1 Side 1 VG/Side 2 G+, Record 2 Side 1 VG/Side 2 VG. Labels are in excellent condition with some spindle marks and have Capital logos but do not have the designations “Record 1” and “Record 2”.
The Pictures: Second run pictures with “Printed in U.S.A.” and the Apple copyright. Lennon photo is printed on a whiter paper then the others. All are in near mint condition. Worst that can be said about them is upon very close inspection there are some light dings on some corners. Does not come with paper separators but does come with an extra picture of Ringo!
The Poster: Second run with “1968 Apple Music Publishing Co. Inc.” Poster is in VG++. Would easily be NM only because of light creases from handling throughout the years. There are no tears, pinholes, writing, stains or yellowing. Very nice.
Overall, a better than average copy of the “White” album, but of course the thing is the “sticker”.
