The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators is commonly acknowledged as the premier psychedelic LP.  When it was released in August of 1966, “psychedelic” was a word being murmured by only the hippest of musicians.  The 13th Floor Elevators proudly described their music as psychedelic and were more than eager to bring the concept of “psychedelia” to the public conciseness.  To deter the chance of anyone misunderstanding their agenda an essay addressing mans recently discovered ability to experience altered mental states was included on the album’s back cover (missing on this copy)
