1/10/64 MONO PRESSING
VERSION 1 - "LOVE ME DO" + "P. S. I LOVE YOU
VARIATION 3 - TITLES ON BACK / COLUMN BACK
WITH "LOVE ME DO" AND "P. S. I LOVE YOU" ON BACK
RARE ALLENTOWN RECORD CO., INC., PA (ARC - ONLY 6% OF MONO PRESSINGS OR ~4700 ORIGINAL COPIES)
This is a very rare Version 1 / Variation 3 "Introducing the Beatles" LP produced at the Allentown/ARC plant. Based on my research, only 4600-4700 version 1 mono copies were produced at this plant. The following characteristics all check out as an authentic January 1964 pressing of this historic LP - the first US release of a Beatles record.
Label:
- Vee-Jay Records Brackets logo
- "INTRODUCING the BEATLES" and "THE BEATLES" above the hole
- Glossy color band rainbow
- Color band rainbow includes all colors
- Bright, sharp silver print
- Includes "LONGPLAYING" AND "MICROGROOVE"
- Includes "Love Me Do" as last song on side 1 and "P. S. I Love You" as first song on side 2
Vinyl:
- 7/8" wide trail-off area on side 1; 3/4" trail-off area on side 2
- Side 1 trail-off has the following..."AB 63-3402 1-10-64 ARC AudioMatrix"
- Side 2 trail-off has the following..."A11 63-3403 1-11-64 ARC AudioMatrix"
- Plays "Love Me Do" as last song on side 1 and "P. S. I Love You" as first song on side 2
Cover:
- VJ 1062 mono version 1 variation 3 (VJ 1062 (1).MC3) ...the version 1 mono cover with the song titles on back - including the "Love Me Do" and "P. S. I Love You"
- Semi-glossy front and back slicks
- Clear image
- No brown border
- No inner flap - consistent with previously found legitimate Version 1 mono covers with Version 1 mono pressings with the brackets logo
- Passes "Honey test" - "H" and "E" in "A TASTE OF HONEY" have no missing ink
That's the very good. Now for the things to be aware of...
The record is not a near mint copy. It has several light scratches but is very listenable. It plays straight through with limited background noise - in my opinion a nice copy.
The cover is quite rare but does have scuffing on the front and some tape very neatly applied at the bottom edge - front and back due to a seam split. There is also wear at the vertical edge (but no seam split). There is a small "KB" in ink at the bottom of the back cover. Finally, the record contains no original inner sleeve...a nice Realistic record protector sleeve will be included.
Based on the condition descriptions below, in my opinion, the vinyl is VG to VG+, and the cover is G to VG. But I am not a record expert, so please tale a close look at the images provided!If you would like to purchase multiple items and would like one shipping charge - request a combined invoice prior to paying for your items. Visual Grading:
Near Mint (NM) Like new condition with minimal perceptible flaws
Excellent+ (EX+) Extremely nice quality with few cover or vinyl wear issues
Excellent (EX) Limited cover wear. Vinyl has limited visual or audible imperfections which do not significantly detract from listenability of the record.
Very Good+ (VG+) May include only minor seam splits, ring wear, cover wear, and/or small sticker tears. The vinyl has marks (eg. scuffs, hairline scratches) visible resulting in some background surface sound.
Very Good (VG) Some cover wear and multiple marks/wear on the vinyl. The record is most likely to have some surface sounds throughout but should be able to play without skipping or repeating.
Good (G) Cover and vinyl show definite signs of wear but sound quality is acceptable.
Fair (F) Cover and vinyl is rough with little care having been taken for the LP.
