Savoy brown 'Looking In'
Original UK Pressing DECCA STEREO Cat No SKL 5066 Blues Rock Monster!
Near Mint Vinyl! Near Mint Audio!
Vinyl Looks Totally Unplayed in my opinion!
Near Mint Robor Gatefold Cover!

Another from my personal collection. This original UK Decca pressing looks unplayed and well, sounds like a new vinyl in my opinion. Absolutely plays like new throughout! No clicks, ticks or pops and certainly no skips or jumps. I don't think that you will find a better sounding copy than this one anywhere! One of the best sounding copies that I have heard! I believe this copy to be a Contract pressing, I have never come across this variation before look at the matrix very rare and scarce to find like this. The Robor gate fold cover is also in exxceptional condition no splits or tears.

An archive copy never need to upgrade from this audio!

Hear the complete album in the player below. Actual recording from the vinyl!

Looking In is the sixth album by the band Savoy Brown. It was released by Decca in 1970. For release in the USA and Canada tapes were leased to Parrot Records.
Side one "Gypsy" (Simmonds) – 0:57 "Poor Girl" (Stevens) – 4:04 "Money Can't Save Your Soul" (Peverett, Simmonds) – 5:34 "Sunday Night" (Simmonds) – 5:23 "Looking In" (Peverett, Simmonds) – 5:17 Side two "Take It Easy" (Peverett, Simmonds) – 5:47 (not 3:40 as printed on album) "Sitting an' Thinking" (Simmonds) – 2:40 "Leavin' Again" (Peverett, Stevens) – 8:29 "Romanoff" (Simmonds) – 1:01
The band was formed by guitarist Kim Simmonds and harp player John O'Leary, following a chance meeting at Soho's Transat Imports record shop in 1965.

The initial constant line-up adjustments were attributed to the "creative accountancy" employed by the band's manager, Harry Simmonds, brother of Kim. The original line-up included singer Bryce Portius, keyboardist Trevor Jeavons, bassist Ray Chappell, drummer Leo Manning and harmonica player John O'Leary (O'Leary appeared on record with the band on its initial recordings for Mike Vernon's Purdah label).

Portius was one of the first black blues musicians to be a part of a British rock band. Jeavons was replaced by Bob Hall shortly after the band's formation, and this was followed shortly by O'Leary's departure and the arrival of Martin Stone on guitars. This line-up appeared on the band's 1967 debut album, Shake Down, a collection of blues covers.

Further line-up changes ensued, with founding members Portius, Chappell and Manning departing along with recently recruited guitarist Stone over a short period of time. Chris Youlden and "Lonesome" Dave Peverett would become the band's new vocalist and 2nd guitarist respectively. Initially Bob Brunning and Hughie Flint (from John Mayall's Clapton-version Bluesbreakers) filled the bassist and drummer positions on the single Taste and Try (Before You Buy), but they were subsequently replaced by Rivers Jobe and Bill Bruford. Within a fortnight of Bruford's arrival in the band, he had been replaced by Roger Earl (Bruford went on to huge success later as Yes's drummer).

This line-up recorded two albums in 1968, Getting to the Point, and Blue Matter, which demonstrated Youlden's rise as a songwriter alongside Simmonds. It was this line-up that released the single "Train to Nowhere" in 1969. A Step Further was released later that year, and introduced bassist Tony Stevens replacing Jobe. They developed a loyal core following in the United States, due to songs such as "I'm Tired," a driving, melodic song from the album. Following the release of Raw Sienna (also released in 1969) both Youlden and Hall departed the band. Raw Sienna had marked the first time that a single line-up of the band had recorded successive albums without any changes in personnel.

The band recorded their next album, 1970's Looking In, as a four-piece, and following this album Peverett, Stevens, and Earl left to form Foghat with guitarist Rod Price. Simmonds continued the band with Dave Walker on vocals, Paul Raymond on keyboards and guitars, Andy Silvester on bass, and Dave Bidwell on drums — almost the complete Chicken Shack line up.

The Vinyl
This vinyl looks almost like a new vinyl in my opinion, on initial inspection of the playing surface looks superb and lays perfectly flat on the turntable. This is free of any warping. Even in strong light I find it hard to even see a blemish on the playing surface at least no real scratches to mention,,  No marks that would cause any real noticeable interference during the audio that I heard! Any marks that there could possibly be would be light whispy sleeve removal only, but I struggle to find any ! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping! Quite unbelievable to find like this!

 The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl four  times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system,,  This vinyl plays through as a new vinyl would in my opinion! One of the best sounding copies that I have ever heard all instruments were prominent and a controlled audio feel only heard like this in this condition! The audio is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! I heard (no) clicks or pops and amazingly no real surface or background static during the audio and importantly no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all! There are Certainly no skips or jumps! Even in between tracks this is lovely, quite unbelievable to find like this after all these years!  ,, without the usual background surface noise that is so often heard on these early pressings. I would grade the audio very near as mint throughout!
An audiophile Audio archive copy never need to upgrade in my opinion!
hear for your self in the player above, actual recording from the vinyl!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static but nothing consistent  through out the audio! This is a vinyl that is at least 40 years old and would have been played on a system that is at least 40 years old! Audio like new in my opinion.
Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.

The Labels
This is the original blue Decca  Decca labels!  A truly unique scarce copy in lovely condition,  ''MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN''.! (UK PRESS ONLY)!

There is little if (no) spindle ware (the hole is perfectly round) see photo.  Barely a handful of spidering can be seen angled in strong light  (this has obviously barely been played no more than a handful of times and certainly not overplayed in my opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original Decca ,poly lined record sleeve (Correct for this pressing) Becoming fragile at the edges light creasing/staining with age only.  Nice and bright condition.  Please note, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL! The vinyl is always stored separately from the vinyl for protection. This is how I always store my records.

The Cover
This is the UK PRESSED  Moore & Mathews Printed, super glossy un-laminated gatefold cover! There is no splits or tares!  Amazingly there is no real creases to mention at all.  The rear is also exceptionally clean indeed. There are no splits or tears and no nasty rubbing to mention and rubbing is barely noticable in my opinion.       This cover must grade at least  excellent plus to very near mint, in my opinion. Try to find a better cover, impossible like this!
