Description
I saw Willie Dixon in concert at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA, around 1987. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to meet him and he signed all my records and this is one of them. He also signed "Catalyst" which I auctioned off about a week ago and my copy of "Mighty Earthquakes and Hurricane" which I sold about 15 years ago. "I Am the Blues" is from 1970 and it's my favorite Willie Dixon recording and one of the best blues records ever. Great backing Band! The liner notes only say that this is "his hand-picked crew of Chicago blues veterans" but they were the Chicago All-Stars comprised of Sunnyland Slim on Piano, Big Walter Shakey Horton on harmonica, Johnny Shines on guitar, and Clifton James on guitar. So on this 1970 album he is basically proudly proclaiming that he is the author of all of these great 60s blues songs that most of us first heard covered by the Doors, Cream, Rolling Stones, Johnny Rivers and Mose Allison. The vinyl is MINT. The cover has some record ring at the top front and a dented bottom right corner.
