Incredibly rare 1st US pressing of The Velvet Underground & Nico’s 45 RPM 7” single with 2 tracks “Sunday Morning / Femme Fatale” released in December, 1966. This commercial issue with the dark blue Verve Records labels is one of the rarest and most collectible releases of The Velvet Underground & Nico and comes across much rarer than the promotional release of this issue with the pale blue “Special Disc Jockey Record” labels. In late 1966, "Sunday Morning" was the final song to be recorded for The Velvet Underground & Nico. It was requested by Tom Wilson, who thought the album needed another song with lead vocals by Nico with the potential to be a successful single. The final master tape of Side 1 of the album shows "Sunday Morning" only penciled in before "I'm Waiting for the Man". The “Femme Fatale” track, which was also included into the debut album, was composed by Lou Reed at the request of Andy Warhol and dedicated to his superstar Edie Sedgwick. The currently listed 45 RPM record was pressed by MGM Records in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Original 1st print “Made in U.S.A.” Verve Records “Produced by Andy Warhol” VK-10466 blue labels with silver print containing the “MGM Records – A Division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc.” credit. Pressed at the MGM Records plant in Bloomfield, New Jersey, the vinyl contains the 1st pressing matrix numbers including the block looking “S” symbol on both sides: Side 1 (Sunday Morning) - VK 10466 101592-1 I I Block-Looking "S"; Side 2 (Femme Fatale) - VK 10466 100903-1 I I Block-Looking "S". This copy comes with the original yellow sleeve with the red Verve Records logo, “The ‘Livest’ in Recorded Music” banner and “Verve Records, Inc. 451 No Canon Dr., Beverly Hills, Calif. Made in U.S.A.” credit. Included in this listing is a rare original 1967 Verve Records “So Far Underground, You Get The Bends!” promotional advert. It measures 5” x 8” and contains a photo of Andy Warhol with the LP cover of “The Velvet Underground & Nico” placed on the top of the vinyl record in front of him.

The Verve Records sleeve is graded as Excellent Minus, It doesn't have any splits, writing or residue, only a few light creases at the top of the front side. We grade this very rare vinyl as Very Good. It has some light scuffing in the runout groove area as well as some light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks along some scuffs from the sleeve. Please pay attention that a small piece is missing on the very edge at five o'clock. It's right on the edge where the dead wax is and doesn't affect the playable area. The labels are in Excellent Minus condition only having a little bit of soiling and scuffing. The vinyl sounds great with only some very light occasional static which most likely would go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. The original Andy Warhol / The Velvet Underground insert is in pristine vintage Near Mint condition.
