Teen Idles 7"EP 1st Pressing Dischord #1 Absolute MINT
Never been played, in plastic bag since it was made
THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE LAST COPIES OF THE 1ST PRESSING I WILL EVER SELL.YES,THE STARTING BID IS HIGH, BUT IT'S THE FIRST RECORD DISCHORD RELEASED, IT'S BEEN OUT OF PRINT FOR 31 YEARS, AND IT'S IN COMPLETELY MINT CONDITION! IF IT DOESN'T SELL, I AM HAPPY TO HOLD ONTO IT.
DESCRIPTION: Very rare, mint condition copy of 1st Pressing of The Teen Idles' 1st 7" EP, "Minor Disturbance", originally released in November 1980. Dischord No. 1, Dischord Records, Washington, DC. Only 1,000 copies were made of this first pressing with this nice glossy cover. (2nd pressing was 1,000 also, but of those about 150-200 got warped by the heat in the van) Black vinyl record with white labels, in white paper sleeve. Includes 11" x 17" lyric sheet with photos of the band and list of places we got banned from.
The Teen Idles had saved up $600 in a cigar box from shows we'd played, and although the band was breaking up (guitarist Geordie Grindle was going off to school and bassist Ian MacKaye wanted to try singing), and decided to put out a record. Knowing no one else was going to put it out, we put it out ourselves, with advice on pressing plants and printing places from our friend Skip Groff, owner of our favorite record store, Yesterday and Today Records.
The front cover of the record shows Alec MacKaye's fists, proudly X'd with magic marker to signify being too young to be served alcohol and proud of it and not really terribly interested in drinking anyway. Back cover shows the Teen Idles and fellow members of the DC Hardcore scene outside The Chancery, a club in Washington, DC. If you look carefully, you can see Teen Idles memebers Ian MacKaye, drummer Jeff Nelson, Geordie Grindle (with his back to camera in front), and singer Nathan Strejeck, along with Henry Rollins, Eddie Janney, Brian Baker, Michael Hampton, Danny Ingrahm, and others. People pictured were in or went on to play in bands such as Minor Threat, Youth Brigade, S.O.A., Black Flag, Henry Rollins Band, Untouchables, The Faith, Rites of Spring, One Last Wish, Happy Go Licky, Tone, Fugazi, The Evens, Bad Religion.
There are 8 songs on this record: "Teen Idles", "Sneakers", "Get Up and Go", "Deadhead", "Fleeting Fury", "Fiorruci Nightmare", "Getting in My Way", and "Too Young to Rock."
CONDITION / PROVENANCE: This record is in mint condition, has never been played, and has been kept in a plastic sleeve away from light and dust since it was made 32 years ago. The record cover was printed on a very glossy paper stock, and unfortunately no one told us that we ought to have a layer of protective varnish put on after it was printed (or else they told us and we couldn't afford it - I can't remember). As a result, the covers scratched (and would still scratch) very easily, and that was a big problem, given that we had to cut, fold, and glue each cover by hand.
The cover of this record has a few light scratches (see photos), of the type that were nearly impossible to avoid, there being no protective varnish. I had to work at it to even get some of the scratches to even show up in photos. These very gentle surface scratches are the kind that each cover would have had by the time we had hand-cut them, and are MUCH less noticeable than the types of serious scratches that most of the covers had once we were finished folding and gluing them.
This record was put in a plastic bag very early in its life, it has stayed there for almost 34 years (Dischord will turn 34 in either November or December 2014 - I can't remember exactly when the record came out). Basically, the record is in the same shape as when it was first assembled - except in much nicer shape than most of the ones we made and sold. You KNOW I kept the best copies for my archives! I doubt you will ever find one nicer than this.
This record comes from my (Jeff Nelson - Minor Threat/Dischord Records) punk archives, which are being downsized after continuing to be described as "too big" and "insane" or containing "more than my potential kids or grandkids will ever want." Please see my auction for lots of other punk/hardcore flyers and records as well as other jetsam I'll be putting up for sale......
