While already having street credibility due to their years supporting a plethora of gold and platinum artists (Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Chicago), the debut album from Toto simply titled Toto catapulted the power quintet into major arena rock status as they accumulated a ton of hit singles and gold and platinum album awards on this 1979 masterpiece.

Upon its release, Toto flew into the upper rungs of the rock and pop music charts with the power rocker "Hold The Line." Filled with its catchy hooks, brilliant vocal and guitar work from maestro Steve Lukather, and the familiar Bobby Kimball high energy lead vocals, this amazing debut single has become a classic rock staple. Adding the stellar piano work from David Paich and Steve Porcaro, the song truly resonated with its huge audience, and broke wide open the importance of both the band and their great new album.

WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI/REPLICA-LP-SLEEVE" CD?

Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you.

Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics.

Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere.

Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded.

All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. This fact along with other latter features we've mentioned make these titles rare collectibles that sell in the collectors markets for $100's of dollars apiece.

TOTO SELF TITLED - THIS TITLE IS COMPLETELY GONE FROM THE COLLECTORS MARKET STILL SEALED - IT SELLS FOR WAY ABOVE $150 IF YOU CAN STILL FIND ONE SEALED. - Toto has been putting out albums for over 20 years now, and I have virtually all of them. All are very enjoyable in different ways, and this one is no exception. This is simply classic, melodic late '70s rock at its best. Everyone knows their first ever huge hit "Hold The Line", which to me is one of the best rock tracks in history with its catchy keyboards, crunching guitars, and soulful, melodic vocals. But the rest of the album is also fantastic. To me, standouts include the leadoff instrumental "Child's Anthem", "I'll Supply The Love" with it's very rocking guitar riff, the unique "Manuela Run", and the surprising closing track "Angela", which starts off as a ballad but builds into a hard guitar riff and rocking chorus. This entire album is worth a listen. Must-have for Toto fans and strongly recommended for melodic/classic rock fans.

The 40 Trips Around The Sun Tour, scheduled to begin in February 2018 in Europe, is the band’s most extensive run in years and is a worldwide tour to celebrate the band’s enduring career.

Alongside the launch of the tour, TOTO along with Legacy Recordings have created a Greatest Hits package. The album features brand new previously unreleased music alongside newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner & Gavin Lurssen and his team. The core Toto members, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams re-entered the studio to work on the material.

Toto guitarist Steve Lukather releases new album!

Steve Lukather aka "Luke" and Joseph Williams will release individual solo albums on February 26, 2021 via The Players Club / Mascot Label Group. Both artists have made significant contributions to the other's album.

Throughout the course of five decades Steve Lukather has placed an indelible stamp on pop culture. Alongside his tenure as the only member of Toto to never take a hiatus from the band, he has performed on thousands of albums as a session musician. He continues to be Toto's band leader, a member of Ringo's All-Starr Band, and a solo artist performing with multiple ensembles.

Lukather's new solo album I Found The Sun Again was co-produced by Ken Freeman, who also both engineered and mixed. The players feature many dignitaries that have been in Luke's life for decades. Among those are drummer Greg Bissonette, keyboardist Jeff Babko, and bassists Jorgen Carlsson and John Pierce. Life-long friend and Toto band-mate David Paich performs piano and organ across the album, while Joseph Williams sang on multiple tracks alongside writing string and horn arrangements and tracking keys on "Run To Me." Both Paich and Williams co-wrote that specific composition, while friend and band leader of the All-Starrs, Ringo Starr makes a special appearance on the recording and in the video.

I Found The Sun Again features five new original compositions, and three covers personally selected by Luke. Those are Traffic's "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys," Joe Walsh's "Welcome To The Club," and Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs." Lukather offers in the liner notes, "ALL these tracks were cut LIVE — no clix — no fix — No rehearsal — one run thru — and record and the whole record was take 2."

The musicians and singers on Joseph Williams' new record Denizen Tenant reads like a who's who of players that have been in the artist's life throughout the past four decades. Among these contributors are bandmates from Toto David Paich and Steve Lukather. Simon Phillips, Leland Sklar, Lenny Castro, Nathan East, all of whom enjoyed tenures in Toto are also featured players on the album.

Denizen Tenant features a dozen new recordings. Amongst these are a cover of The Beatles "If I Fell," which Williams cites as the one specific song that taught him about the power of harmonies and vocal arrangements. On Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up," a very special guest performance is featured in his daughter Hannah laying down a vocal track. Across the recorded repertoire, there is a consistent presence of performances by guitarists Steve Lukather and Mike Landau alongside percussionist Lenny Castro.

With hits such as "Africa" and "Rosanna", more than 40 million albums sold and over 40 years of a career, TOTO is without doubt one of the superlatives of music history.

 

In the early '90s they had a short period as a four-piece featuring Steve Lukather (guitar & lead vocals), David Paich (keyboards & vocals), Jeff Porcaro (drums & percussion) and Mike Porcaro (bass). The line-up, with some additional touring members, performed this concert at Montreux in July 1991 and went on to make the Kingdom Of Desire album released in 1992, shortly after the tragic early death of drummer Jeff Porcaro. The Montreux show combines the then-unreleased tracks from the Kingdom Of Desire album with classic hits and covers of songs by Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. It is a perfect addition to any TOTO fan's collection.
