The vast majority of Promo`s of this LP were pressed at Verve`s EAST COAST pressing plant and had the YELLOW LABELS. To find a WHITE LABEL D.J. SAMPLES, well... record collecting rarely fly`s any higher than this. FUTHERMORE and this is a BIG ONE ! And it puts all the UK record collectors FIRMLY RIGHT IN THE GAME !!! UK bidders are usually on the back foot or can`t even get involved in auctions for this rarity stateside due to the high prices that this record commands, on top of that the crown always want their chunk of flesh by taxing the hell out of it (EVEN THE POSTAGE GETS TAXED).....

After growing through PUNK (the life changing music of my era) it was all over in 2 years..... I thought what do I listen to now. An older friend borrowed me a copy of this and it changed my life.
This ragtag bunch of the most talented bohemians ever assemble into a single rock band CHANGED THE WORLD. Never mind the Beatles CRYPTICALLY singing about L.S.D. WITH Lucy in the  Sky with Diamonds, this bunch came RIGHT OUT WITH IT, with Lou`s masterpiece HEROIN, "its my wife and its my Life". Back in 1967 singing about SADOMASOCHISM ,TRANSVESTISM, HOMOSEXUALITY and DRUG ADDICTION all the fun stuff, back then in 1967??  LITERALLY DECADES AHEAD OF ITS TIME !!!!
Lou Reed`s writing here SHOWCASED the fact that his compositions were at least the equal of Lennon & McCartney  Jagger & Richards and Bob Dylan in terms of his perspicacity and foresight. 
THIS BAND WERE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME THE  WORLD SIMPLY WAS NOT READY FOR THE VELVET UNDERGROUND`S MUSIC OR THEIR TOPICS THEREON !!!! 
Where REED`s TRUE GENIUS is MILES ahead of his counterparts is, he sang about  New York`s wilder side that  NO OTHER WRITERS WOULD TOUCH ! He wrote and sang about HIS societies most disenfranchised members that all those other great writers (and the rest of the world back then had overlooked or looked down upon or had completely forgotten). 
Every societies LOWEST OF THE LOW !!
THAT IS WHAT GIVES THIS ALBUM IT`S ARTISTIC NOBILITY !!!
AND THAT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IS TRUE ART !!!!
I believe in 100 years from now any WHITE LABEL PROMOS of this magnificent artistic document will be looked upon as we look upon old master oil paintings. 
THIS RECORD IS THAT IMPORTANT. 
Bryan Eno say`s every person he knows who bought this LP on its release in 1967 went out and formed a band and went on to become famous. David Bowie and Brian Ferry being just two who claim this LP as a turning point in the musical artistic sphere. It inspired budding artists to get off their arses and stay off them until they became household names. 
This album TRULY DESERVES all the credit that gets put onto Sergeant Peppers lonely Hearts club band. To quote Lou Reed... "I don`t want to get all negative but that`s just a bunch of trash I did`nt like it, it`s a waste of good plastic". 
In the late 60`s this album must have sounded as if it were from 40 years into the future. It still sounds 40 years ahead of time now. This band through the medium of TRUE ART in the form of music, documented the epoch of the SLEAZY WILDSIDE of life in one of the most ALIVE cities on the planet, NEW YORK. That is one of the many fundamental reasons of why this piece of work is so important. The Beatles are the most successful group in history.
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND ARE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL.

THE SLEEVE: ITS A CORKER. LOOK AT IT. Double click the pictures, spotlessly clean throughout . This sleeve is made of the heaviest card stock I have ever seen on an album jacket.  Thick strong front panel with the D.J. SAMPLES PROMOTIONAL COPIES sticker to the bottom of the Banana with the PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE at the top, well it got too much for a previous owner and they peeled back the banana skin slightly at the top but double click the pictures its been stuck back SUPERBLY so the Banana remains unpeeled. Had I owned this back in 67 it would have been way too much for my curiosity... testament to ANDY WARHOL`s GENIUS.
IT IS A PRIVILEGE to own this sleeve. The sleeve in itself is a true piece of ART and the closest I will ever come to owning an original Andy Warhol old master !!!  (Imagine back in 1967 listening to this! THIS NEVER HEARD THE LIKES OF BEFORE BIZARRE music, on the topic`s that NO OTHER ARTISTS had touched upon). Then you look upon the sleeve that just keeps prodding your conscience with those words... "PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE". It would have been way too much for me, I can resist anything except temptation. 
This sleeve is a TRUE and GENUINE piece of Andy Warhol art.
THE SPINE: The Widest spine ever is in truly OUTSTANDING condition and EVERY letter and number on there is completely undamaged (double click the pictures).  Inside of the gate fold is just ASTOUNDING, brightly white with no deterioration, no writing and no foxing anywhere to be seen, this sleeve is a real beauty. The back panel is FIRM and STRONG and has Eric Emerson`s Torso above the band portrait with Lou`s face ghosting over Emerson`s head. Nobody asked Eric`s permission to use his torso so a Law Suit ensued and delayed the albums release or this album would have been released in 66. hence the sub heading "THE TORSO SLEEVE". The 5 portraits below the band shot are IMMACULATE, look how vibrant the colours are. Incredible considering this album jacket is almost 59 years old. 

Johnny Rotten says "Sleeves don`t matter its what inside that counts"  Cant be right all the time John.... The sleeve is a HUGE part of the art as you now know.
The original Verve inner sleeve is here and in EXCELLENT ORDER.
The labels: Side 1 label holds the deep groove and NOT FOR SALE logo it`s flawless, bright and clean and no spindle trails at all.
Label on side 2 it`s the same story but this bares the sticker that reads D.J.SAMPLES PROMOTIONAL COPIES Double click the pictures. This is a true rock artifact and a true thing of beauty.
RARE. RARE. RARE. RARE. RARE !!!!!

The vinyl: Side 1. This is one of the heaviest records I have ever held in my hands. Back in the 60`s records were made with a heavier blend of materials and more shellac was used making the product TOUGHER and much more durable than records that came later. The vinyl has a glorious high luster sheen that shimmers like mirror when the light catches it.The vinyl does have  the lightest spidery hair lines and there are a couple of marks on the vinyl but nothing feelable and side 1 plays SUPERBLY ALL THE WAY without jumping sticking or skips. There is the odd pop and click when you listen with an ultra critical ear but this MONO pressing packs a real punch. The mix of this White label Promo is an alternate mix to the Blue Label stock copies that we all know and love and yes this White Label Promo is the rarest pressing in existence, that on the track VENUS IN FURS approaching verse 2 the volume goes up REALLY LOUD.  I think they should have left that in and put it on all the stock copies. Side 1 plays EXCELLENTLY and is graded as EXCELLENT MINUS.
Side 2: The very same high luster sheen to this side too, it does have light spidery hairlines that appear on every single LP that has ever been removed from its inner sleeve. And there are a couple of small unsightly marks on track 3 but nothing feelable anywhere on this disc. And just like the previous side it plays through its entirety without jumping skipping or sticking. The acid test here is Heroin especially the silent passages and it stands up exceptionally well You will detect slight background noise when you listen with a critical ear but as I said earlier. These high shellac blended records are much more durable than the records that followed later especially following the world oil shortage of 73 and they never got back to the quality of the old days. Testament to the adage " they don`t make em like they used to". Played really loud this Promo is an experience to be savoured. BIG AND BOLD IN MONO AURAL RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. The Velvet Underground JUMP out of the speakers at you !!! AMAZING PLAYBACK side two is graded as EXCELLENT MINUS.
This vitally important album right here is a true piece of ROCK ART and a document in the history of Rock Music as it develops through history. It is a true museum piece. Record collectors the world over dream about owning such a piece.  Well here it is.
