GRADING STANDARDS:
Mint (M): A Mint record or picture sleeve must both appear to be absolutely perfect in every way. For this reason the grade is seldom used.
Near Mint (NM): A nearly perfect record will play perfectly with no imperfections during playback. The disc is shiny and should show no obvious signs of wear. A picture sleeve should still be close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident. The picture sleeve should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects.
Excellent (EX): An excellent record or picture sleeve will have a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. The record may show some signs of having been played, but has been handled and played very carefully. The disc may have light paper scuffs or spindle marks, but there is no appreciable lessening in sound quality. Picture sleeves will show only minor signs of wear or age, and may have a cutout marking and some slight signs of handling or wear, including a tiny bit of ring wear and/or creasing.
Very Good Plus (VG+): A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature, not effecting the actual playback as a whole.  Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs, spindle marks or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be minimal and barely noticeable. A picture sleeve may have slight signs of light storage wear or aging, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner.
Very Good (VG): Many of the defects seen in a VG+ record will be more pronounced on a VG record, with the vinyl displaying visible signs of handling and playing. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of the picture sleeves, although none of the flaws should be overwhelming, and limited to no more than a couple.
Good (G) Good Plus (G+): Record can be played without skipping, although it will have significant surface noise, scratches and visible groove wear. While the record will be playable without skipping, noticeable surface noise and "ticks" will almost certainly accompany the playback. Picture sleeves will have even more pronounced defects than a VG sleeve, with seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear, water damage or other defects will be present.
