This is the “RVG” stamped, Frame Cover, Flat Rim, Deep Groove, “P” pressing of SONNY ROLLINS’ “Sonny Rollins” on the "47 West 63rd” labels of Blue Note BLP 1542. Musicians include Sonny Rollins, Donald Byrd, Max Roach, Wynton Kelly, Gene Ramey.
One of the all-time greatest Blue Note titles. VINYL plays with consistent low-level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks (some repeating). But ensemble sections are very clear, dynamic and STRONG with clean transients, and full tone. No distortion. Good gloss. Handful of hairline marks, couple feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The Deep Groove, “47 West 63rd” labels are clean, some fading, minor spindle wear. See photos.
FRAME COVER is in good shape. Some wear. Corners worn. Spine very worn, name and title gone. Lower seam taped, upper seam 3” split. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23” back jacket shows wear stains, “D Young” written in ink. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
