“A Night at the Village Vanguard” featuring u.a. Donald Bailey & Elvin Jones, ist ein Livealbum von Tenorsaxophonist Sonny Rollins, das 1957 in New York City mitgeschnitte wurde. Diese Aufnahmen sind zumeist magisch. Sonny Rollins, einer der großen Tenöre des Jazz, ist hier auf dem Höhepunkt seines Schaffens zu hören. Nicht nur Rollins dass er über einen sehr prägnanten Sound verfügte, auch sein Timing, sein listiger Humor und sein Bop orientierter, aber unvorhersehbarer Stil machen ihn unverwechselbar. “At The Music Inn” wurde 1958 aufgenommen. Obwohl Rollins nur bei der Hälfte der Tracks spielte, sind diese Aufnahmen hörenswert, da er in Höchstform ist und manchmal lässt er eine sardonische Seite anklingen, als beabsichtige er das Modern Jazz Quartets zu ärgern. 180 GRAMM VINYL
'A Night at the Village Vanguard' ft. Donald Bailey & Elvin Jones is a live album by tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins recorded in New York City in 1957. This recordings are often magical. Sonny Rollins, one of jazz's great tenors, is heard at his peak... Not only did Rollins have a very distinctive sound, but his use of time, his sly wit, and his boppish but unpredictable style were completely his own. 'At The Music Inn' was recorded in 1958. Although Rollins only plays on half of the tracks the recordings are well worth hearing because he is at his best and at times his sardonic side almost sounds as though he wanted to prick the pretensions of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
