Smokey Smothers LP on King 779 - Sings The Back Porch Blues - Original 1st press from 1960. One of the finest copies of this extremely rare LP you are ever likely to see and I think it is fair to grade it as M-. The vinyl is in superb shape with only a couple of faint paper scuffs being the only marks, All seams are strong and intact with only very slight wear. The only slight blemish is a small black mark and scrape on the E of Smokey which appears to have happened before the LP was sealed in its loose fit baggie.
I obtained this LP a couple of years ago from a guy who purchased it from John Tefteller in early 2005 for I would think considerably more than my reserve. The LP came with a letter from John Tefteller explaining the LP was found still sealed in its original baggie in Miami around 2002 in a collection of a former employee of Henry Stone who was a partner in the King label and owned the King/Federal/Deluxe distributorship in Miami in the 1950's and 60's. The guy who found it opened the baggie to check it contained the correct LP as sometimes King LP's are found with the wrong LP. According to the letter neither the finder or Tefteller ever played the LP, the guy I got it from said he played it only twice and I have also only ever played in twice so that means this LP has only ever been on a turnable 4 times !!
I have decided to thin out my blues LP collection in order to buy other records and have a number of very rare LP's from the 50's and 60's on Excello, Folk-Lyric, Barrelhouse, Herald, Score, Fire, Fortune etc as well as some rare blues EPs with picture sleeves.
Records will be packed properly and shipped with tracking and insurance at actual cost which will be more than the $4 ebay allows to be stated in the listing.
