Description

**Please be sure to check my other auctions and sales for rare, collectable and audiophile classical LPs.**

Listed, again, for sale due to non-payment.

Available for auction is an outstanding copy of the best-known rarities of the Furtwangler discography. The maestro conducting the Vienna Philharmonic in performance of Beethoven's Third Symphony (Eroica).

This issue was briefly available for sale in circa 1953 before being deleted from the catalogue following legal pressure from Mssr. Furtwangler. The record company claimed to have legally acquired the master tapes from East Germany, where they had been transported following their seizure by occupation forces. The supreme court case remained unresolved at the Maestro's death in November, 1954.

The binding description of this item is contained within the included photographs and written text. Please review both segments fully--as well as the grading scale below--prior to purchase. Given the intricacy of reasonably evaluating vintage items, a reasonable amount of flexibility and understanding is required of all buyers. If you demand NM+ status for purchased items and are uncertain as to the detail provided in the preceding description, please contact in advance for information and explication.

The very basic guidelines of my grading scale are as follows, and quite similar to--if not identical with--those of other classical merchants with reasonable expertise and/or knowledge:

COVER:
M = Sealed item
NM +/- = Like new in appearance, with flaws noted in description
EX +/- = Visibly used, perhaps minor damage or flaws, with detailed description provided
VG +/- = Visibly used, perhaps moderate damage, with detailed description provided

VINYL (visual grade):
M = Sealed item
NM +/- = Like new in appearance, with flaws noted in description (by definition, visual grade provides little indication of strength/weakness of playback)
EX +/- = Visibly used, with minor flaws that may be present in audio playback, detailed description provided
VG +/- = Visibly used, without major damage (warps, cracks, gouges, manufacturing flaws) but moderate wear/tear, with detailed description provided
