RARE ELLA FITZGERALD SINGS GERSHWIN SONGBOOKS 1959 DELUXE AUTOGRAPHED LIMITED EDITION, This is an original deluxe autographed set from 1959 and not the reissue for Ella's 100th birthday. This is from the estate of a Long Island woman whom I believe purchased it new, set it aside and never played it. This set comprises five 12" records and one 7" record each with a paper dust jacket and contained in a hinged  leather sleeve attached to a modernist blonde walnut clam shell case. The set also includes 5 Lithos by Bernard Buffet contained in the original sleev, the original "Gershwins words upon music" hardbound book, and a set of four original autographs by George & Ira Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nelson Riddle, mounted on embossed paper folio with gilt title, hand numbered 12 (out of 200 sets) and signed by the producer Norman Granz.
For the most part I believe this to be an unused set although the condition due to age is not perfect. The papers have toned at the edges but not torn, The Lithos are excellent, The book has a couple of light minor smudges on cover and with excellent interior. The records do not appear to have been played. I took the first three out of the leather sleeves to inspect and was not able to return them as the leather leaves have shrunken somewhat. The other two are tight and I left them in place. A close examination of the records shows a V shape marking that coincides with the V shape thumb notches on the leather leaves. I do not know if these marks are abrasions or some other kind of anomaly that will affect the sound. In any case it appears on both sides of two of the records and affects the first two tracks. I do not know if this is the same with the two records I did not remove. Other than that the surfaces only had some dust and lint which probably appeared after I removed them. The paper sleeves for each record have age discoloration, are dried and brittle.If you have any questions or would like additional photos please let me know.
