Description

Pink Floyd ?– The Dark Side Of The Moon

UHQR - Ultra High Quality Record.Engineered by Allan Parsons, and Mastered by Sam Ricker.Pressed in Japan for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab.
Thick, heavy 220 Gram press, using special JVC vinyl  -  (The only MFSL UHQR release, on 220 gram Vinyl, all others are 200 grams)

The ultimate issue.Still sealed, with the Original Hype sticker in tact on the Original Shrink-wrap.The best way to ensure that the wrap is original, is to get the rare ones that have the sticker in tact. This was was obviously a postal order, and still has the evidence of a picking slip to the back of the shrink, (which is also a known identifier for mail orders)These rarely come up for sale with the sticker, and without any identifiers, there is a chance that it is a re-wrap.
As a dealer, I do not consider a sealed issue as reliable, without a key identifier to the shrink.
This one has Two clear identifiers that it is the original wrap. (sticker and picking slip remnants)These are also Two good signs that it may be a early number.
Limited edition of 5000 numbered, custom pressings. It was made from the master stamper at the Victor Company of Japan (JVC) plant in Yokohama, Japan during the May 1981.
This record is the ultimate fidelity issue, and really does need some very good, and very expensive equipment to properly appreciate. If you are a collector, who has no intention of opening this box, then this is a great investment. If you intend to open, and play this record, then unless you have the appropriate equipment, you are probably wasting your money.

If you have the appropriate set-up, then this is the right one to chose, as it has obviously never been opened before, and if you are making an investment on a lifetime experience, why take a risk on anything less than purity. This will make the investment into your equipment worthwhile.
Eliminate all doubt, and enjoy an un-played Ultra High Quality Record.Pink Floyd, The Dark Side Of The Moon.
In my humble opinion, this is the ultimate vinyl record, in the history of vinyl records.

UHQR

In 1981, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab  produced eight UHQR (Ultra High Quality Record) albums.

Album Box: The record album is housed in a 3/4 inch thick black cardboard box. On the inside of the cover of the box is a pouch that holds the Technical Specification Manual, and the UHQR Certificate of Authenticity. The record itself is housed in a separate inner album cover, sandwiched in between two 1/4 inch foam protectors. The inner album cover is black with "Original Master Recording." in a red strip at the top, and "UHQR By Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab" in the lower right corner. Inside the inner album cover, the record is in a static free inner sleeve.

Production Run: All MFSL UHQR albums were made in limited quantities of 5,000 numbered copies each.

Super Vinyl: MFSL UHQR records were made with Super Vinyl. Super Vinyl was produced using a highly-polymerized synthetic resin with high vinyl acetate content derived from a vinylchloride-vinylacetate coploymer. Its characteristics include superior elasticity, extreme durability, and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. Its frequency response is so accurate that the specification of plus or minus 0.5dB is maintained over a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz.

Technical Specifications:
Distortion: Distortion was so low on MFSL UHQR records that nearly theoretical values were achieved. Low, mid, and high range distortions were improved by 12, 10 and 6 dB or more, respectively.
Frequency Response: Frequency response on MFSL UHQR records is flat. Its accuracy is within plus or minus 0.5 dB, whereas conventional records have a frequency response of plus or minus 3 dB.
Record Quality: Production of UHQR records by MFSL produced minimal individual disc quality variations.
Surface Vibration: Mid-range disc surface vibration at 700 Hz was reduced by 10 dB.
Wear Resistance: Because MFSL UHQR records are flat, thick, and free from physical shape distortion, there is relatively little wear resistance.

UHQR Characteristics: The sound quality of UHQR records is excellent. They have solid bass, more substantive imaging, a better three-dimensional field, and greater definition of inner detail than any other record.

UHQR albums are perfectly flat, eliminating tracking errors, mechanical pickup vibration, and disc surface vibration due to reproduced sound pressure from the speakers. They are also thicker than conventional records, significantly reducing disc surface vibration.

These records are made with Super Vinyl, producing high forming accuracy and excellent wear resistance. Each UHQR record was pressed with an ultra precision mold on a totally unique, high precision press, developed by JVC as a result of its research with the original CD-4 disc and VHD / ADH video-disc production process. Pressing irregularities, such as "orange peel," were eliminated, resulting in reduced low frequency range distortion.

Vinyl Weight: MFSL UHQR albums were pressed on 200 gram Super Vinyl but Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" was pressed on 220g  Super Vinyl.

A few words about condition.

Grade &
score out of 100

                                           GRADING
Mint is a Rigid Band - The next Four Grades are all Narrow Bands, that slightly widen as the condition gradually deteriorates - Good is still Good, but there is a rapid widening of the Grade Bands, as the condition deteriorates over the last Four grades.

MINT

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.
The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
Only graded on records that are sealed or clearly unplayed.

NEAR MINT

EXCELLENT
90 to 96
The record shows virtually no signs of having been played,  there is no lessening in sound quality.

VERY GOOD PLUS
80 to 89

VERY GOOD
69 to 79
The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.
The cover and  packaging might have slight wear, light creasing.

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.
Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects.
This is an above average used record, that has been well looked after.

GOOD
56 to 68
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has deteriorated, but the record will still play through, and it will not be a completely unpleasant listening experience, even at the bottom of this grade (56).
The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR
41 to 55
The record is still playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even stick, skip or jump.. This is starting to be an unpleasant listening experience at the top of the grade (55) and will not be a pleasant listening experience at all by the end of it (41).
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR
25 to 40
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc.
The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD
0 - 24
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
The Sleeve is non existent (0) or what is left, is only just recognisable.

A few words about postage.

Within Australia, the best value for multiple purchases is a 5KG satchel, where as many as 15 to 20 LPs can be posted for $22.00 registered post. (well packed in a box, inside the satchel)

My Policies on postage are simple.

I post at cost.
The user pays.
I package well.

Any item that you purchase without choosing the option of "Signed for" or "Registered" Post, is at your risk.
I do accept that "signed for" can be expensive, especially internationally, but whether you take the option of this insurance, is entirely up to you.
I do not wish to withdraw the option of standard postage for the cheaper records, but it must be at your risk.
