Paesaggi - Zalla (Piero Umiliani) Performed by I Marc 4 Liuto Records - LRS 0042 - 1971
Incredibly scarce original pressing of this Italian library masterpiece. All tracks composed by the Maestro himself Piero Umiliani (under his alias Zalla) and performed by the super-group of Italian session players I Marc 4. Recorded in Umiliani's own Sound Work Shop studio in Rome. Copies of this record are very thin on the ground even by Library standards. From what I can see, the last and only other copy that sold on eBay was way back in 2006!
A lot of Italian library records are plastered with company stickers and have handwritten notes on the back. This copy however is very clean without any stickers, writing, marks or creases. The only small area of wear is a 4cm seam-split at the bottom right of the cover (see photos). The vinyl itself is quite heavy (compared to the repress which I heard is a bit flimsy) enabling a deeper groove and richer sound. Visually it is stunning with a lustrous black mirror appearance and no visible scratches, scrapes or scuffs. Under a very strong light you might be able to pick out one or two wispy hairlines. More importantly it sounds fantastic with crisp definition to the soaring flute notes and warm roundedness to the bottom-end organ sounds.
