Description

NICK DRAKE - 'FIVE LEAVES LEFT'

A rare opportunity to acquire a fine UK 1st pressing of his exquisite debut album which dates from initial September 1969 release.

It is on the textured pink 'block' Island label: ILPS-9105

'Day is Done' and 'Way to Blue' on the side 1 label are, like on the cover track-listing, reversed.

Matrix numbers: ILPS+9105+A3 & ILPS 9105 B//2

Vinyl weight: 127g

Housed in an unlaminated 'Ernest J. Day' printed gatefold cover, complete with original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT +

A vibrant, clean & unblemished pair bearing a few light spindle trails around the side 1 centre hole clean but just a single one on side 1.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

Both sides retain all of their deep-gloss factory shine and are unmarked in strong daylight. Close examination beneath halogen light reveals only some ultra-light wispy paper hairlines consistent with inner-sleeve removal. Both sides of this well looked-after disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

This fine sounding copy has received minimal careful play on quality equipment and plays with a warmth and depth missing from even the latest high-quality reissue. All tracks play without any trace of groove/playwear distortion or any clicks, pops, tick or other such distractions. Some mild vinyl background is audible in parts which does not in my opinion detract from the ethereal quality of this timeless album.

Cover: EXCELLENT

A highly respectable example of this easily worn cover of which few survive in anything approaching this condition.

The front panel is clean and free from storagewear rubbing with just a small area of discolouration along the upper seam and corner.

The corners themselves have very light shelfwear to their tips but no heavy bumps or bruising and edges of the rear-only opening pocket are sharp and free from any tears or feathering.

Both inside panels are clean & wear-free.

The rear panel is also totally unblemished with no stains, writing or missing paper.

There is a touch of shelfwear to the lower seam but it and the upper one are unstressed & unsplit.

The spine is in great shape and all of the wording is fully intact and legible.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
