1969 Island ILPS 9105 ILPS 9105 A//2 1 1 1 / ILPS 9105 B//2 1 1 3 Vinyl EX very lightest traces of scuffs, the vinyl looks shiny and very clean. Playback is mostly very clean and clear but there are very occasional ticks, and we have provided a long enough sound sample for you to tell very accurately how this sounds. Labels EX under strong light you might be able to see a faint spindle mark but only very looking hard :-) Sleeve etc EX - this one is a great copy and features only very light handling, some very very light bend marks in good light, a strong, legible spine, good colours, pretty crisp edges, just very light wear in spots, check the hi-res images for yourself. They are not normally this clean!. click on the images to enlarge!

Original UK pressing. GENUINE ORIGINAL UK 1st issue. Gatefold sleeve, pink Island 'block' labels, A2/B2 matrixes (actually the first ones).

Following on from last week's 'Bryter Layter' auction, we have the collossal classic, debut album from Nick Drake on original issue: 'Five Leaves Left'

Thoroughly and very carefully professionally cleaned on Vpi Record Cleaner! Altogether in great EX condition.Winner will be Chuffed to bits.

This is of course the holy grail of all Nick Drake fans.. the ever elusive and increasingly very hard to find 1st UK issue of the first album. It came very briefly on the original pink 'block' design Island labels, pressed in the Polydor plant. Later pressings were in the 'tree' Island labels and made in the EMI plant.

The famous track-listing error is present and (in)correct on the sleeve 'Way To Blue and 'Day Is Done' in the wrong order although the labels are corrected. This actually means it's the second 'batch' of the first 'issue' although for all intents and purposes this is the first pressing. Only some labels got corrected. We're not sure if it was in the printing of the labels or during the making of this 1st run but this one of the corrected versions on labels only.

I could go on and on about the music but I fear you already know it all backwards though it's fair to say that it contains Nick's most beloved tune ''Cello Song'. The tunes here are a mixture of intense guitar playing and lush beautiful string backing with contributions by among others bassist Danny Thompson (who played much with Drake's contemporary John Martyn), Richard Thompson of Fairport, Clare Lowther's beautiful 'cello playing on ''Cello Song' is a highlight. She was also played with Fairport among others. If this was the only thing she famously recorded, she at least goes down as contributing in fine style to one othe world's greatest debut albums as does very able US percussionist Rocki Dzidzornu on two numbers 'Cello Song' and 'Three Hours', 'Kwasi' as he was otherwise known could also be found playing for among others Taj Mahal, Ginger Baker and even Jimi Hendrix. As usual Nick was in the finest musical company, even so none of them distract, they are there to help, and how!

The audio on this has a clean background and no bad surface noise although there are a few clicks in the intro to A1 and A3, elsewhere hardly any. The orinal soft-lined inner sleeve was one of those notorious for sometimes damaging the vinyl it contained and this one would probably have done so if it hadn't been taken out and replaced some time ago. You can see what appears to be a very faint trace of this surface discoloration on the outer edge of side one but it's thankfully done no damage to the audio at all and you need to look hard for it anyway.

As mentioned above, the second issues were made on 'Tree' labels by the EMI plant. In that respect, they were mastered from the original tapes twice and in this case they both did a good job. There's no amazing difference between them for sound quality but it is of course several times rarer on these pink labels which came three years before the change to EMI.

The sleeve has the wrong track order for A4 and A5, the original 'Ernest' J. Day company printers credit (later issue were 'E.J. Day') and it's a really good example, although not mint, it's a perfectly good copy with no major flaws, just a few very tiny ones, you'll have to look around for ever to find many better ones anyway.

We really are running out of chances to grab this famous and much loved debut album. Oh and did you know the trivia: the title comes from the then Rizla company's habit of putting a warning paper just before the last 5 in their rolling paper packets, that it was time for a new packet.

This item will be packed in a very secure and well padded box, the LP seperated from the sleeve by a layer of card, because we know how important that is to the real collectors.

Good luck!

Star Ratings:
This is more than just an add-on, it's a method to enforce sellers to trade to eBay standards. Buyers can give sellers marks for 'item as described', 'shipping time', 'shipping cost' and 'communication'.
VERY IMPORTANT Sellers are required to maintain an average of over 4.5 stars for each category. This means that anything less than a 5 star rating actually counts against the seller (though you may not have meant it to). This is not made clear to buyers so that's why we're telling you now.
Shipping cost: Our prices are clearly marked on the table above and you should not have any complaint about that after the sale.
Item As Described: We try our best to make our descriptions accurate but mistakes can happen. We GUARANTEE our items, so if you have any problem we will refund you.
Shipping time: We try to ship on the next available posting day but we are a busy shop and this can't always happen. We will let you know if there is any significant delay. Please take into consideration any public holidays, etc.
Communication: We try to respond immediately but we are a busy shop. The eBay part of our business is conducted OUTSIDE shop hours therefore some communication may be delayed. Please take this into consideration when asking a question or when leaving a rating.

Problems:
We would consider it rude if you go straight to eBay or Paypal before contacting us. Remember eBay are not selling you this item; WE ARE! Any refunds or claims for damage will have to come from our pockets. If for ANY reason you are unhappy with our service, or if anything goes wrong, please contact us first and we will try to solve the problem together. We're here to help you. We want to keep you happy so please contact us with any questions at any time.
