Description

A few words about Mercury Vogues:
Vogue Recording made records for Mercury. Mercury never sold the records. They never were for sale. They were given to radio disc jockeys in the hopes that the disc jockeys would play and push the sales of these records. Mercury highlighted information about the artist on the record so that the disc jockey could read off the record to his audience. With the exception of 4 or 5 Vogue records (R711, R713, R715, R784) the Mercurys were actually rarer than the Vogues. Things that were given away never seemed to be taken care of like things that people had to pay for. For example, in 1945 many Vogues were sold for 89 cents at retail and that was a lot of money at that time. Therefore, people generally took better care of them than the average record and saved them.
