With Eric Clapton & Ringo Starr....This stereo double record album is still in it's original shrink wrap. Both stereo records have a custom label, a tan "whole apple" with a photo of Yoko Ono inside, and black print text, on one side, and a tan-and-white "cut apple" label, with black print text, on the other side. This two-record set comes with custom printed (John Lennon drawings) inner sleeves, a poster of Yoko Ono with John Lennon and Yoko pictured golfing in the lenses of her mirror sunglasses, and a three-and-three-fourths-inch by five-and-three-fourths-inch order card (with a hole in the center) for Yoko's book "Grapefruit" on one side, and "A Hole To See The Sky Through - Yoko Ono '71" printed on the other side. Musicians appearing on the album include Yoko Ono (voices, claves), John Lennon (guitar, piano, organ), Eric Clapton (guitar), Ringo Starr (drums), Klaus Voormann (bass, guitar, bells, cymbal, percussion), Jim Keltner (drums, percussion, tabla, tuned drum), Jim Gordon (drums, tabla), Bobby Keys (claves), Chris Osborne (dobro), and Joe Jones Tone Deaf Music Company. "Fly" was recorded at Ascot Sound Studios, and at The Record Plant, New York City. "Fly" was released in the United States, on September 20, 1971.

The second album by Yoko Ono. Her first was 'Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band' with the fluctuating supergroup that included John Lennon, and at variously Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Phil Spector, etc. It was a companion piece to what is considered Lennon's most accomplished solo album 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band'.

'Fly' is definitely up there with the debut, a record that is variously avant-garde and jam-oriented - groovy even - but always experimental in it's approach. For the most part it sounds like nothing else from the period, the only music that came close was the budding 'krautrock' scene, and this was unfortunately lacking in Ono's kabuki-theatre wailing (which is like Marmite, most will hopefully appreciate the spectrum of it's abrasive/beautiful range.

Unlike 'Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band', which was at times loud and fast and today is still hailed as proto-punk, 'Fly' is more spaced-out, much longer and more of an all-round Fluxus (the Japanese Dada-inspired art collective Yoko represented) statement.

On record you will also hear the use of mysterious, specialist 'instruments' custom-built by Joe Jones, a Fluxus artist whose idea it was to evoke emotions yet to be illuminated by sound vibrations. Also, if you're a Beatles fan it's interesting to hear the rhythm section of Klaus Voorman (the man responsible for several iconic Beatles record covers) and Ringo thrashing out weird jams with Clapton and Lennon atonally banging away in the background. It feels like they have all been infected with the Yoko virus, and the results are electric.

Recorded with the core personnel of the Plastic Ono Band, including Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Klaus Voorman, FLY veers from relatively straightforward songs like "Midsummer New York" and the rueful "Mrs. Lennon" through more challenging fare like an extended take of "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking For Her Hand in the Snow." There's also the hypnotic "Don't Count the Waves" and the avant-garde selections "Toilet Piece/Unknown," "Telephone Piece," and the extended title track. The album's highlight is the surprisingly poppy "Hirake," originally titled "Open Your Box."Airmale" is the soundtrack to John Lennon's film Erection, showing a building being erected in time lapsed photography, while "Fly" is the soundtrack to "Fly" the film by Ono.
