The Seekers - Louisa Wisseling Before

The Seekers

Gatefold EP Recording featuring Louisa Wisseling, Lead Singer with The Settlers, Resident band at the Swagman Restaurant

Ferntree Gully during 1975/76

Joining Athol, Keith and Bruce was 23 year old Dutch Australian singer Louisa Wisseling, who had previously sung with Melbourne group The Settlers. This line up of the group went on to record two albums, The Seekers and Giving and Taking (1976). Sparrow Song, the first single from the self-titled album, reached #2 on the Australian charts. They were sometimes billed as Seekers 75, to avoid confusion with the previous line-up, but on albums and singles they were simply The Seekers. In 1977 Bruce left the group, to be replaced by Buddy England; by 1980, Keith Potger was the only original member left: Athol had been replaced by Peter Robinson, and Louisa by Cheryl Webb. The group went through at least one more change before disbanding until 1988 (Buddy was replaced by Rick Turk). Then, as part of Australia's Bicentennial celebrations, the boys joined up with Julie Anthony, and went on to perfom a musical and record an album, Live On. The liner notes for this LP/CD are particularly memorable in that they managed to rewrite the group's history without mentioning Judith Durham. After Julie left to have a baby, Karen Knowles joined them from mid 90 to early 91.
