Recorded for Roulette on two consecutive days April 3 & 4, 1961 in New York, Ellington, Armstrong and four fellow musicians including Barney Bigard (cl), Trummy Young (tb), Mort Herbert (b) and Danny Barcelona (d) recorded a total of 17 tracks, enough for two albums. The companion album is entitled "Recording Together For The First Time" which was the first to be released in 1961, this one following in 1963.
