Description

LEE MORGAN BLUE NOTE 1557 MONO NM++ ED. 1 SUPERB. This is a copy for the ages. It is in absolute archival condition. The cover is as fresh and perfect as if came off the presses yesterday. The colors are brilliant, the seams are perfect with no splits, and there is no writing or any damage whatsoever. There are no repairs. This is the most perfect cover I have ever seen on any early Blue Note. Just amazing. To say that it is clean is a monumental understatement. The record play quiet, very, very quiet. I played it with a Shun Muk mono cartridge and the vinyl was stone cold quiet on my very revealing system. This is the original, FLAT EDGE, DEEP GROOVE 47 West 63rd copy. Both sides have in the runoff vinyl THE EAR and the designation RVG for Rudy Van Gelder. Under intense light there are two or three very faint paper scratches that are barely visible and that were completely inaudible when the record was play graded. In short, the record plays as if it had never been played and looks as if it had never been handled. This is the most perfect vintage Blue Note record I have ever seen, and that is saying at lot. I bought this from the legendary Leon Levitt, who kept this as part of his private collection. I visited his home and warehouse from time to time and we became close friends. Re this particular recording, he allowed me to take home and play several copies and pick the best record with the best cover. It was actually no contest because this copy surpassed all others of this title in his collection. This is a spectacular copy that will be impossible to upgrade.
