Description

Here is a record which defies rational description. But I'll try:

First, understand that LOUIS ARMSTRONG AND HIS ORCHESTRA are high - I mean STOKED - on Weed, Gage, Mouta - "The Mighty Mezz."  Thus inspired, they do an extravagant, unique routine called "LAUGHING LOUIS."

After one brisk chorus by Louis and the band, a sudden-death ending. They dispense with music altogether.  A cappella, Louis and the band discuss his "Little Selmer trumpet - bless its little heart!.."  The band (which does most of the actual laughing) taunts Louis, who insists he can really play.  Despite many jests from the peanut gallery, Louis, solo, gets through most of J.S. Zamecnik's "Romance No. 2," which ends on a spectacular high note.

Of course, nothing can beat actually HEARING the record, which, after all, is the whole point.

The flip side, "TOMORROW NIGHT," is more conventional, but it IS still Louis Armstrong.  Both sides are recorded in sparkling Bell Labs near-high-fidelity sound.

This original 1933 Bluebird B-5363 is in lovely E condition.  It's a late ('39) pressing, which is a very GOOD thing, shellac-wise.

Incidentally, I see that "Laughin' Louis" was prepared for a Victor release in April, 1933, then withheld ten months until February, 1934, when it finally came out, ONLY on Bluebird.  Some Victor committee deliberated for eight months before it finally saw issue!

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
