Description
The vast majority of the records up for sale are from the personal collection of Sid Woods, an R&B, Soul and Jazz disc jockey in the 60s at Indianapolis, Indiana’s only African American radio station--WGEE. In addition to being a DJ, he also hosted many jazz festivals across the Midwest including the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival in 1964 which included Duke Ellington, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck and Dizzy Gillespie. Prior to 1961, he was the DJ at WRAP in Norfolk, Virginia, one of the first African-American stations in the country at that time. In the mid-1950s he got his start in spiritual music and was known as the “Gospel King of Tennessee”. He was a personal friend of Wes Montgomery and included in the original collection was a lacquer test pressing of Full House on Riverside. While 90% of the records for sale are from this collection (lots of great Prestige, Blue Note, Argo and Riverside releases), if you are curious about a specific record, please feel free to email me.
We highly recommend insurance on all orders over $100. Message for details.
