ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and rare LP – a superb collector's copy – from Telefunken (STEL 12, French Pathé Marconi pressing, black/silver label, stereo, dowel spine) features Joseph Keilberth and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in a magnificent all-Mozart program. Recorded on 29 July 1959 in the warm acoustics of the Kulturraum, Bamberg, these are wonderfully stylish and beautifully pointed performances, having none of the heaviness sometimes associated with conducting styles from this era.

Included are the following works:

Divertimento No 2 in D Major K. 131

Serenade No. 6 in D Major K. 239 "Serenata Notturna"

Symphony No. 28 in C Major K. 200

The underrated Keilberth was a remarkable musician, one now enjoying critical reassesment following Testament's issue of his transcendent 1955 Bayreuth Wagner 'Ring Cycle'. Hopefully, this will lead to further re-issues from Keilberth's large and highly distinguished discography. His Mozart is revelatory, and comparisons with Walter, Krips, Klemperer, et al. are not to Keilberth's disadvantage. The sound throughout is superb.

Incidentally, the lovely cover art reproduces a detail from Jean Antoine Watteau's "Le Concert". There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Georges Beck.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT+. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as slight shelfwear. However, there are no seampslits, bends, or owners' markings and the whole remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very handsome collector's copy.

The condition of the dowel spine is EXCELLENT+. There is only some discoloration due to aging – no seamsplits, etc. – a superb copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT+. Visually, while there are hairline marks, these do not affect play. In terms of sound, although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
