Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This excellent LP from German Columbia (SMC 90532, German pressing, white/gold label – ED1, stereo, laminated jacket) features conductor Herbert von Karajan’s resplendent account of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in Ravel’s orchestration, made with the Philharmonia Orchestra, recorded in the fabled acoustics of London’s Kingsway Hall in October 1955.

There is both power and majesty here, Karajan conducting with visionary flair and the Philharmonia proving once again why they were the finest orchestra in the world at this time.

Incidentally, there are informative liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German only. The striking cover art carries the painter’s initials (HS).

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears virtually as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very striking in appearance – overall, a lovely collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
