The performers are the 13th Sound Ensemble of Havana directed by Cuban violinist Angel Reyes. Highly recommended beautiful and alien sounds.

Mexican composer, tuning theorist, violinist, and conductor Julian Carrillo first began exploring microtonality in 1895 and devised the term "el sonido trece" ("the 13th sound") to refer to microtonal intervals and the discarding of the traditional 12 tone scale. His first microtonal compositions came in the 1920s, when he worked with Leopold Stokowski and devised a new notational system to accommodate his music; he went on to develop several new instruments including a the octavina for eighth tones and the arpa citera for sixteenth tones (96 tones per octave).
