For auction, an original copy of An Ideal For Living, Joy Division's first release.

I was watching "Control" .. the film about Ian Curtis and Joy Division and there was a scene in it where they are folding the sleeve for the record, and I thought "I've got one of them"!

So I looked on eBay and there was a "repro" for sale which looked just like the one in the film (and in my memory). I wondered how you could tell if it was an original or a reproduction? But I was thinking that mine must be an original because it came direct from Pennine Sound Studio in 1978.

I was 15/16 at the time, and at school in Oldham. Someone's brother worked at Pennine, so he used to come into school with tapes of bands who had recored there, but one day he came in with a handful of copies of a record, raving about the band ... Joy Division.

I've since found out about the record through Joy Division Central website http://www.joydiv.org/I3.htm#2 and been and retrieved the record from my mum's house (where it's been all along), and it is an original...

it has the correct matrix numbers,

the intials EG scratched in the run offs,

the serrated band around the label,

the label is matt finish,

and is contoured.

The record is in excellent condition. It was only played once or twice at the time and never since. Has no marks.

The sleeve is excellent apart from slight yellowing and turning (not folding!) at the top left of the front.

It's been stored upright, in the flimsly plastic sleeve it came in (no mention of that on the website) in a smoke free environment.
