Red Vinyl! "This LP (which the Nutmeg label put out in 1978) turns its attention to a rare 1968 performance at a club in New York's Greenwich Village, where Jimi Hendrix took part in a loose jam session that also included Johnny Winter and the Doors' Jim Morrison. "Loose" is definitely the word that describes these forceful hard rock performances -- Hendrix does a lot of improvising, and his playing is most uninhibited. Hendrix and Morrison share the vocal duties, but while Hendrix's singing on "Peoples, Peoples" is lucid, Morrison sounds like he's stoned out of his mind. ... Obviously, Morrison's drunken hollering was never meant to be released commercially, and it's important to stress that High Live & Dirty must be taken for what it is -- a group of rockers getting together for an informal jam session and having some wild, raucous, obnoxious fun. Nothing on this LP can be considered essential, but these performances are exciting if you're seriously into Hendrix, and will interest collectors and historians." - Alex Henderson, AllMusic.com
