Description:
As many of you know this is (besides Mobley 1568) the holy grail for any serious Blue Note collector!
It's an original USA first press dated 1956 (recorded in Rudy Van Gelders Hackensack Studio) with deepgrooved Lexington address labels, flat edge vinyl (no safety lip), there's the ear as well as RVG hand-etched in dead wax.
As this is in highly collectible condition I put a more than reasonable reserve on this one.
Condition:
LP: The LP itself is in absoulety outstanding condition (especially when you consider it's age). I just have listened to the whole LP:
Side 1 grades Near Mint- with only slight signs of useage seen only under bright light (probably from removing out of the inner sleeve and back). NO scratches or whatsoever. It plays nice with that great old Van Gelder vintage mono sound. NO distortion, NO surface noise, NO clicks or pops. Even the quiet parts like bass solos or piano intros play nicely.
Side 2 looks and plays great like Side 1 except for very small area with a needle drop mark (?) on "Almost like being in love" (B1) which causes some light ticks for only a few revolutions on my Linn LP12 with MM-System (I remember that it's almost not audible on a MC-System which just goes deeper into the groove). Besides that it's a great listening experience as Side 1 (NO distortion, NO surface noise, No clicks or pops). Because of the above mentioned clicks on Song 1 a VG++ would be appropriate for Side 2.
There's only the slightest wear around spindle hole. I doubt that this LP has seen much play.
Cover: Clean front and a clean white back (no ring wear, no writing). Unfortuneately there's spine wear, the bottom seam is split 2/3, top seam is split but held together in the middle. Grades a solid (very displayable) VG
I did my best to describe this item as excactly as I can. Additionally I decided to guarantee for this item - return for a refund minus shipping if not satisfied.*
*) Of course item must be in the same condition as it was when it left my home.
Grading: I am a longtime Jazz collector (especially Blue Note) and I use
NM, VG++, VG+, VG for grading
(I don't sell Poor or Fair albums).
