Description:

As you see from the photos, this is an Ultra Special, Authentically Autographed by Bernard Albrecht, Peter Hook, Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris, an Original 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP.

There are only about FOUR authentically fully autographed with (BallPoint-Pen) and each band member’s autograph (Near to Their Picture), original 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EPs in known existence.

This being offered now is (Without Any Doubt) one of the two best quality signed covers that exist. The disk is excellent, the disk cover is near excellent and the autographs are just perfect in everyway possibly found, with Ian Curtis autographing flawlessly above his photograph/head.

What is so special about these early autographs, and like another early set being offered in this collection is that they capture so clearly the still unfolding young timid nature of WARSAW/Joy Division members. These autographs are all small and the shyness of these young lads is extremely evident, as if each one is thinking “What…You know us, and you really want our autographs?”

Additionally, it is very interesting to note in this autograph-set how there is an evident spontaneous unity between Joy Division band members as they mirror each other so closely in their autograph proportions.

Though, in the next twelve months or so, Joy Division members would come out of their shell somewhat and their autographs would become just a little larger.

Moreover, there is one fact about this Ian Curtis autograph that will go unnoticed, and is actually very note worthy. In the short life of WARSAW/Joy Division there has not been any known time/occasion where Ian Curtis has autographed on or near any photograph of himself as a front-man in his band.

So these few accepted Original/Authentic 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EPs with Ian Curtis having autographed next to his photo are actually the only known, and existing “Signed Photograph Images” of the front-man of WARSAW/Joy Division.

Story/Provenance:

These wonderful Joy Division autographs were all obtained at T. J. Davidson’s Rehearsal Rooms, Manchester in early 1979, by a local band member who also rehearsed there with his band, and loved Joy Division and their music.

The story and details of this are all in a private signed, dated and addressed accompanying letter from the owner/seller at OMEGA Auctions, Stockport, UK.

For those who are not familiar with OMEGA Auctions, Stockport, UK. They are recognized Joy Division/Factory Records specialists with direct friendly connection to Joy Division members, and that is also why Peter Hook had his personal collection/items sold at this auction house in Stockport some years ago.

The paperwork seen in the pictures from OMEGA Auctions, Stockport, UK and the signed letter from the owner/seller at OMEGA Auctions will also be included.

These items are individually kept in easy to remove acid-free holders.

To Note:

Ian Curtis (AUTHENTIC) autographs are “ULTRA RARE”, and to know them from experience is very important, so this presented collection has offered to everyone a knowledgebase to look back at.

By now, with all the past decades of worldwide internet sale possibilities, and the staggering amount of awareness relating to the value of authentic Joy Division Autographs/Items, it can be very safely assumed that (ALL) their authentic autographs have shown-up, if there is “One More”, then it really needs to be looked at Very Closely.

The facts speak for themselves to this effect, WARSAW/Joy Division had a very short life as a group, by the time they were a little more known, and anyone noticed them, their state of affairs were in tatters, every Gig they did and coming close to the audience was like walking a tightrope, to complete any Gig or recording safely was with a saved breath and a sigh of relief.

It can be said from experience and observation reflected in this collection, that all the very few known authentic Joy Division autographs were obtained by the very few people who had really noticed and liked Joy Division before the Joy Division world was properly turned upside-down. And the few authentic Joy Division autographs after that were just fragments of incomplete band signatures.

To highlight these facts even more, it’s enough to just look at these old authentic autographs offered in this collection to see that all of them had on the back sticky-tape or glue-tack, indicating that they were obtained by individuals who really did like Joy Division, so they displayed their autographs that they had put-in a sincere effort to obtain.

In conclusion, if there were a very few more once obtained by less interested individuals Joy Division autographs, then it can be safely assumed that these autographs “If Any” ended-up in the dustbin.
