Artist : Frank Traynor's Jazz Preachers

Title : From The Pulpit

Release details :
circa early 60's Aussie pressing on the W&G Records Label ( Cat. No. # WG-B-1722 ~ Mono )

Frank Traynor ~ Neville Stribling ~ Ade Monsborough & Roger Bell ( ex-Graeme Bell band ) ~ Neil MacBeth ~ Neil Davis ~ Graham Coyle ~ Judith Durham.

Description : Here is a very rare Trad. Jazz album from Melbourne's legendary jazz combo The Jazz Preachers led by Frank Traynor. This group was of course the starting point for Judith Durham when at 19 years old she recorded an EP with them before linking up with what then became The Seekers.
Not a lot of information has been recorded on this particular album and I tend to think it was their first foray into the studio as a band. That being the case the opening track here on Side 2 : " Trombone Frankie" is in amongst Judith Durham's first ever recordings and it doesn't appear on the 4 track 1963 EP titled 'Judy Durham & Frank Traynor's Jazz Preachers'.
Judy, as she was known then, is listed as having recorded one other song with the Jazz Preachers in 'Muddy Water' though no other information is available as to where one can find it on record as it is incorrectly stated on some web-sites as appearing on this LP in place of 'Trombone Frankie'... so vague is the recording history of the band. This album is circa 1963 and by my reckoning it was laid-down prior to the EP though I may well be splitting hairs here. Either way it is certainly a most worthwhile collectors item.
A gem of a pick-up for jazz collectors and Seekers enthusiasts that is not likely to surface again in a hurry.

Track Listing :
Trombone Rag ~ Dallas Blues ~ Ballin' The Jack ~ Daddy Do ~ Strut, Miss Lizzie ~ St. James Infirmary Blues ~ Muskrat Ramble ~ Trombone Frankie ~ Dear Old Southland ~ Dr. Jazz ~ Ragtime Dance ~ Black and Blue ~ No One Else But You ~ Royal Garden Blues.

Condition:
( Note : This record was play-tested before grading.)

VINYL ~. This album is in excellent condition and at a shade under 200 grams just about the heaviest piece of vinyl I've come across for an LP. It also has that serrated edge which was popular with the W&G record company on their early releases. No lead-in hiss to speak of , lightly played, and it tracks through like a superbly both sides with no intrusive background noise of note…a glorious sound that overall is difficult to fault. No skips and is rated EX … a lovely copy that will not disappoint.

Labels ~ Both labels are clean.

JACKET ~ The cover is in fantastic condition. A couple of small soil spots and very minor ring-wear on the back only … otherwise very neat with no marks or splits and the spine is intact. A most presentable cover and most likely the best you'll ever see for this very hard to find Aussie rarity.
