THIS IS HOW I GRADE MY VINYL:

NM- This is the highest grade I will give; glossy; minimal flaws - if any

VG++ (EXCELLENT): Only the slightest of wear, light scuffs

VG+ (Very Good Plus): More scuffs and noticeable marks but sounds good and does not skip.

VG (Very Good) Vinyl will have some noticeable surface noise and show more noticeable scuffs, marks and wear. Some you may be able to feel  when softly running a fingernail over it. (These are called fingernail scratches) There may be some clicks and pops more consistently in sound, but record will still play ok with no skipping.

VG- (Very Good Minus): Generally not collectible condition unless it's a very rare record. This is what you would expect of a record owned by a party-going teenager in the '50s and '60s. No skips. Okay for listening, especially if you like scratches and pops.

Unless record comes with a picture sleeve or company sleeve the condition of sleeve may be - Used Sleeve - which may or may not be clean and crisp as it is used for protection of the record only. I try to include a new white generic sleeve as much as possible.

If the record looks clean it will play clean. However even those that are play graded may play differently from one record player to another. So sometimes, due to their age, they may have a hiss or pop.  Grading is subjective to the best of my ability.

Unless you buy a vinyl record that is sealed or in mint condition there may be some type of surface noise known as hisses, pops and crackling.  If the record has been played even a few times it will never be perfect.
