Description

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome 2LP box set La Vox de son Maître (FALP 381/382, French pressing, red/silver labels, mono, original inner sleeves, booklet, and band present) features Wilhelm Furtwangler’s legendary ‘live’ 29 July 1951 account of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 125 'Choral', given with the Bayreuth Festival Chorus and Orchestra and soloists Elisabeth Schwarzkopf (soprano), Elisabeth Hongen (alto), Otto Edelmann (tenor), and Hans Hopf (bass) – a landmark account of this work and still very much a gramophone classic.

This exalted and iconic performance was issued by permission of Wieland and Wolfgang Wagner and Frau Elisabeth Furtwängler. With the chorus trained by Wilhelm Pitz, Furtangler's Bayreuth Ninth's remains among the very greatest ever captured on record.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the box is EXCELLENT. There is slight edgewear in general and some discoloration to the front panel, but that is all. There are no corner breaks, seasmsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the box remains solid, bright, and very attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the original 8-page booklet is GOOD.  There is some discoloration (spotting) and some bumping at corners. However, the pages remain crisp, the binding solid. The texts throughout are in French only.

The condition of the paper band, which wraps around the two inner sleeves/LPs is GOOD. There is some discoloration and wrinkling, but it remains intact.

The condition of the inner sleeves is VERY GOOD throughout. Like the booklet, there is some discoloration (spotting), but no seamsplits and both remain solid and servicable.

The condition of the 2 LPs is VERY GOOD throughout. There is light surface noise throughout, but in general the playback is quite good. If you must have MINT or near-MINT copies, then you are advised to look elsewhere. These are very good collector's copies.
