Description

Four Acetate 16" Transcription Records, 1 sided each, containing 4 parts of the "Theater Guild of the Air" radio drama  "The Seawolf" with Burgess Meredith and Boris Karloff, sponsored by US Steel Corporation. Side 2 has an extended announcement regarding the Steel Mill strike of 1952, apparently US Steel used this medium to sway public opinion in their favor. Notation on this label warns "Do Not Air" (apparently meaning, after the strike was over). There are two paper sleeves included with the records.
These records play very well with a microgroove stylus, the program runs about 1 hour total, entire set has been checked with a transcription turntable with stylus pressure of less than 1 gram.  There are some chips in the acetate as shown in the photographs, but these do not encroach the recorded grooves, The chips look like they were stabliized nail polish or epoxy.  There is very little groove wear, and the program has good volume. There is some marring in the acetate around the labels of the records, but again, it does not encroach the recorded grooves.
"The Sea Wolf" has been adapted to stage, screen and radio presentation. Synoposis: In 1900, fugitives George Leach (John Garfield) and Ruth Brewster (Ida Lupino), along with writer Humphrey Van Weyden, board the seal ship the "Ghost," under the command of callous Wolf Larsen (Edward G. Robinson). Ruth languishes sick below decks, while Leach and Van Weyden witness how Larsen's cruelty has hardened the crew. Van Weydon discovers that the "Ghost" is not a seal ship, but fleeing Larsen's brother, and that the captain has a deeper, darker secret that threatens the entire crew. Very enjoyable radio drama listening! Thanks for looking!
Shipped in oversize, padded cardboard sleeves via media mail.
