Description

The FANTASTIC DEE-JAYS - the ORIGINAL rare release on STONE RECORDS (label # SLP 4003). According to research done on the internet, this Pittsburg Pa. garage band, that got their start as The Larks, recorded on local labels in 1965 and 1966. A trio that featured two guitarists and and a drummer, with oddly no bass player. Their production is crude with mounds of reverb. The group evolved into the SWAMP RATS, a harder edged combo relying on nasty punk versions of rock and r&b hits. The group opened for The Rolling Stones in a 1965 concert. Promoted by Terry LEE (a Pennsylvania DJ) it is rumored that their songs were recorded in the production studio of the old WMCK studio (Elks Temple Building) in McKeesport Pa.. Described as a garage punk version of Peter & Gordon. Album cover has edge/corner wear. Top seam has an approx. 1 1/2" seam split at right corner. Bottom seam has an approx. 3" seam split that starts at the left corner. Album cover has some rubbing wear on both sides but still presentable. No writing. Song listing is: (side 1) FIGHT FIRE, GET AWAY GIRL, SHY GIRL, MR. SAD, TWO TYMES TOW (side 2) YOU'RE THE ONE, WHAT A SHAME, WHAT YOU'RE DOING, LOVE IS TUFF, JUST A BOY. Produced by Paul J. Shalako. Heavy vinyl. Vinyl condition (visual grading): has surface scratching and scuffing but not bad overall. It actually still has some of its sheen. I would rate this as being in Good condition but I would guess it plays better. I don't have a turntable to play this on but I would I would give an educated guess and say that it will have areas of background hissing and some clicks but shouldn't skip because of any scratches. There is a very tiny imperfection bubble (pressing defect) on track 'Mr. Sad' that might cause some noise on a couple of rotations. Label is clean except for a few small paper tears around the spindle hole on each side, which was common when playing the record on a turntable.
