Baron Elmo proudly presents an incredibly rare vinyl document of the earliest soundworks of the late Bryn Jones, aka Muslimgauze: his complete recordings under the name E.G. OBLIQUE GRAPH, Complete Oblique, released as a double LP by the Vinyl on Demand label in an edition of 500 hand-numbered copies, now long unavailable. Cut in 1982 and 1983, just before assuming the Muslimgauze alias, Jones released three tapes and a vinyl single as E.g Oblique Graph: Extended Play and Piano Room on his own Kinematograph Tapes, Triptych and the "Inhalt" 7-inch on Recloose. Over the years these have become highly sought items by fans, and all but impossible to run down -- Bryn Jones himself didn't have copies of them all. For Muslimgauze devotees, then, this first-time LP release of these barely-issued titles represent a golden opportunity to see and hear the earliest recordings of an artist who still wields an enormous influence over experimental music more than a decade after his tragically premature death. It should be noted, though, that the content of these two LPs bears little to no resemblance to most Muslimgauze recordings. The E.g. Oblique Graph sound is sparse and primal electronic music, homemade tapes with a defiant DIY attitude -- more than anything else, this is reminiscent of the earliest recordings from Cabaret Voltaire. Bryn Jones laid down basic tracks on synth, then mixed in various tape recordings and beats for roughage. The more dark or abstract these tracks get, the more interesting they are: marred choirs and speech, reversed and otherwise manipulated tapes, electric discharges, sonar-like pings, seemingly random juxtapositions and more. It's dark, strangely satisfying stuff that could have been issued last week and sound right in place. Complete Oblique is a labor of love in every way imaginable: two LPs pressed on luscious thick vinyl, packed in a beautifully designed gatefold sleeve that incorporates artwork from the original cassettes and seven-inch. Again, only 500 hand-numbered copies of these were pressed (this one is #487), and they sold out almost instantly. Don't miss this opportunity to make the complete Bryn Jones pre-Muslimgauze recordings your own! This set was purchased new and never played. The whole package -- both records and the cover -- is in stellar, mint condition.
