The discovery of these 2-track masters comprising Stereo ‘57 - The Essential Elvis Volume 2, is nothing short of a miracle, and this 200-gram pressing cut at 45 RPM from Quality Record Pressings sounds so astonishing, your jaw will hit the floor!

From the moment Elvis began working with a new song, sound engineer Thorne Norgar had the 15 ips mono tape machine rolling simultaneously with a 2-track protection copy. The machines weren't switched to pause until Elvis was satisfied with the take.

A couple of years before the advent of the stereo LP in mid-1958, major record companies were experimenting with stereophonic recordings, often refered to then as binaural. Studios were using the new Ampex 2-track tape recorders for other purposes, such as for recording session back-ups. But few Elvis fans know how close history came to permanently losing these precious audio glimpses of a young Elvis engrossed in the creative process.

Founded in 1933, Radio Recorders of Los Angeles was the preeminent recording studio of its day, and its director of recording, long-time engineer Thorne Nogar, engineered all of the Elvis sessions from 1955 to 1961. Some of popular music's greatest hits: "Jailhouse Rock," "All Shook Up," "Loving You," and "Teddy Bear," are just a few of the blockbusters that Nogar oversaw Elvis record at the studios, located at 7000 Santa Monica Blvd.

Elvis would be right in the center of everything, at every recording session, Nogar would later recall. "Like with the Jordanaires when he sang, we would set it up with a unidirectional mike, so he would be standing right in front of them, facing them, and they would have their own directional microphone and they would be singing to one another."

The 2-tracks from which this record was pressed could not have sounded better, and there was no one more careful, more experienced and technically skilled to record these historic sessions than Nogar, says Acoustic Sounds' founder and CEO Chad Kassem.

Yet one day years later when Thorne was "cleaning out" his tapes closet, remarkably, he set these 2-track backup tapes aside, intending to dispose of them. Noted producer Bones Howe had worked for Nogar as a tape operator at Radio Recorders, and thanks to him the tapes were saved from a final resting place in the trash can. Bones took the tapes home with him. He'd put them safely away in a bank vault.

These 2-tracks have "erase" clearly written on the master log sheets. They're from January 1957 sessions at which Presley produced material for two EPs and the film "Loving You" soundtrack. They're the only known ones surviving from the pre-stereo era.

RCA's Essential Elvis series was a vehicle for the release of Presley's alternate takes. On this double LP set, listeners hear Presley at work, refining band arrangements and working through the nuances of his vocal performance. The LP reveals the Jordanaires voices' sparkling with a natural lifelike sound that's both sonically rich and detailed.

The Jordanaires, a vocal quartet originally formed as a gospel group in 1948, gained fame largely for being Elvis' background singers, both in live appearances and recordings, from 1956 to 1972. If discovering these rare, almost lost recorded treasures weren't enough, the sound reproduction puts this release over the top! When the Jordanaires sing "Peace in the Valley," you'll swear you're hearing a melody sent from heaven. An audiophile's prayer come true!

There are a number of first and second takes, during which Presley and his backing musicians make tentative passes at the material. As the record progresses, arrangements take shape and Presley, growing more confident that a keeper take is imminent, sings with more enthusiasm. Throughout, Presley is heard directing the proceedings and demonstrating a lot of "aw shucks" charm in the process, goofing with band members and laughing through his and others', flubs.

Like other reissues pressed by QRP, this magnificent 200-gram LP is notable for its absolutely silent background. The vocal harmonies are tingle-inducing, life-sized and utterly natural.

For serious Elvis fans and anyone else interested in the creative process, Volume 2 meets the first definition of "essential" as well as the second: it's indispensable stuff.

40th Anniversary 180g Vinyl Double LP chronicles Presley's last major studio sessions spent at Stax Recording Studios in his hometown of Memphis in July and December 1973.

Elvis At Stax bristles with energy and dynamism including singles that skirted the Top 40 from 1973 to 1975. 

The desire for a new sound found Elvis performing with members of Booker T. and The MGs, The Memphis Boys and his own TCB Band.

Etched in music history, 1973 was a crucial watershed year for Presley, in the wake of his return to extended concert touring in 1972, after 12 years away from the stage and 27 movies in Hollywood.  His manager, Colonel Tom Parker, sought a world-class mega-event to underscore the touring, which led to the one-hour global satellite broadcast from the Honolulu International Center Arena on January 14, 1973, viewed by over one billion people around the world.

The highs of 1972-'73 led Presley and Colonel Parker to accept a multi-million dollar offer from RCA for an outright transfer of Presley's complete back catalog. He wanted a new start, new control, and a new publishing company.  But the RCA deal also called for his return to the studio and a promise for him to deliver 24 new masters.

Four years earlier, in 1969, Presley had made his Memphis recording return at Chips Moman's American Studios.  These triumphantly successful sessions had yielded a year-long string of 'comeback' hit singles including "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds".  But by 1973, American Studios had closed up shop, and most of its musicians had relocated to Nashville.  However, Stax Studios, the launching pad of such greats as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Booker T. and The MGs, and Isaac Hayes, was still thriving at its original space on McLemore Avenue.  In fact, Isaac Hayes relinquished his studio time to accommodate Presley.

Presley spent 12 days at Stax in 1973 (July 21-25, and December 10-16), and the roller coaster ride of those sessions is detailed in Gordon's liner notes.

Elvis 56 – originally released in 1996 – is a compilation of studio master recordings made by Elvis Presley in 1956. The sessions on this LP took place at RCA Studios in Nashville and New York, as well as at Radio Recorders in Hollywood.

This is a dual speed, 12 inch at 150 gram, 33 1/3 RPM on the A side and 45 RPM on the B side. Released in the fall of 1957 as a 7" single, backed with "Treat Me Nice" and was Number One on the U.S. Chart for seven weeks.

This is the first time this is available on 12"vinyl in this format. It's Elvis Presley sounding better than ever and is sure to generate great interest from collectors, as well as Elvis fans and music lovers.

On Jailhouse Rock, "taken from the original soundtrack of the movie, Elvis sings all five of the songs which were written especially for the film. In the fall of 1957 "Jailhouse Rock" was first released in the US as a single backed with "Treat Me Nice" and was #1 for seven weeks. Early in 1958 it entered the British charts at number one, making it the first single ever to do so and remained there for three weeks. "Jailhouse Rock" also spent some time at the top of the Country and the R&B charts. Jailhouse Rock was not released as an LP although it contains some of Elvis's best songs. Five of the six songs from the movie were released as part of an extended-play, seven-inch 45 RPM record that soon topped the Billboard EP charts, eventually selling an additional two million copies and earning another double-platinum RIAA certification.

The Jailhouse Rock tunes are unassailable - the writing and production team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller played prominent roles in the making of the soundtrack. The pair took over the recording sessions, serving as unofficial producers of "Jailhouse Rock," "Treat Me Nice," "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care," and other tunes. Their collaboration with Elvis and his musicians on "Jailhouse Rock" resulted in the singer's hardest-rocking movie song. As D.J. Fontana once noted about his drum playing on the record, "I tried to think of someone on a chain gang smashing rocks."

The performance in the film of the title song by the young and sensual, "dangerous" Elvis complete with chorus boys dressed as convicts is legendary. One of the best of Presley's films, Jailhouse Rock is a perfect balance of song and story - seldom would Elvis be so well showcased in the future.

Being backed by an eight-piece band, an orchestra and eight backup singers the show itself is the more elaborately produced follow-up to his Las Vegas performances of 1969-1970.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched “The King of Rock and Roll” trademark to his name.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35 top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time. In 1968, after a series of very successful movies and top charting recordings, Elvis made a wise decision to work with the folks at NBC and develop a Christmas TV special, which would have The King perform in front of a live studio audience for the first time in years.

This legendary career move spread like wildfire and soon was hailed as “The Comeback,” further igniting his career to an all new high. The King took his shows to the theatres and casinos and super massive stadium tours over the next number of years, while releasing a plethora of even more gold and platinum recordings With the soundtrack album nearing release, it was already gaining popularity in advance thanks to the chart single smash If I Can Dream. A record by Elvis, produced in Tennessee. What’s so special about that? Surely everyone knows that the King sobbed his early songs into the local radio microphones. But From Elvis in Memphis is far more than just one of around 40 albums which he produced during the course of 35 years. “This marks what is probably the most impressive comeback in the entire history of pop music,” enthused the normally reticent New York Times.

What had happened? In 1969, after a 14-year meteoric career in show business and movies, and an exemplary PR campaign, Elvis returned to his hometown to record these songs which, in their style, are reminiscent of those recorded in the Fifties for Sun Records. Alongside the lavishly mixed pop and blues numbers (“Power Of My Love”) and country sound (“I’m Movin’ On”), there is also one of the greatest chart-busters and heart-breakers of a whole generation: “In The Ghetto.” There is certainly no room for discussion about the value of this collector’s item – the astronomical price for a good used copy speaks for itself.

Good products are worth their weight in gold when times are a little harsh - and this album was certainly a genially placed stopgap. In 1959, at the time when RCA launched this record on the market, the label’s shinning rock star was out of the country doing his military service in Germany. In order to comfort all his fans during his forced absence, the record bosses produced an album with a smartly uniformed Elvis on the cover, smiling widely to let his faithful followers know that he’d be back soon. There was a special calendar, too, so that his fans could count off the days until his return. This marketing ploy was extremely successful. The record became a highly desirable collector’s item and even years later illegal dollars still flowed from pirate copies.

The RCA producers kept mum about when and where the tracks were recorded. But who cares about that when listening to Elvis giving the "blue grass" classic "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" his unmistakable, rockabilly sound? The other titles, all of them performed by a well-proven ensemble of rock ‘n’ roll musicians, are filled with the honest, powerful language of the young - or from today’s viewpoint, old - Elvis.  ELVIS IS BACK

During the King's artistically unproductive period of military service, no costs or efforts were spared and no consolatory promises of things to come were left unsaid by the management in order to keep Elvis alive and well in the minds of his vast circle of fans. At last the great coup was landed: Elvis Is Back was what everyone was waiting to hear and American radio and television broadcasting stations made a gigantic medial feast of it. With the ink scarcely dry on his demobilization papers, Elvis entered the studio in March 1960 and recorded a whole series of numbers which later became worldwide hits, such as "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and "It's Now Or Never." Released as singles, these tender ballads created a sensation, while the LP with numbers such as "Dirty, Dirty Feeling," "Like A Baby" and "The Thrill Of Your Love" underlined Elvis' enhanced qualities as a rock, blues and gospel singer. That his voice - despite everyone's fears - had lost nothing of its erotic thrill is more than amply demonstrated in his rendering of "Fever" alone, which is accompanied merely by bass and percussion.

The original 1961 album release of "Blue Hawaii", had 14 songs on it. Now this expanded version has 22. Is that good or what? The new 8 extra tracks, except one, have never been released before. "Blue Hawaii" features the title song, "No More", "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Rock-a-Hula-Baby", "Moonlight Swim","Hawaiian Wedding Song", plus more. "Steppin' out of Line", the original, was the one bonus track already released. It was released one year after the original "Blue Hawaii" album came out on "Pot Luck". By the way, be sure to get that one as well. This is an outstanding job RCA did on this! "Dreams come true in blue Hawaii, and mine could all come true, this magic night of nights with you." Elvis' theatrical ouevre found him portraying singing busboys, singing prizefighters, even a singing doctor in love with a nun, all of which makes his role as the heir to a pineapple fortune in "Blue Hawaii" sound positively prosaic. But Elvis and Hawaii were made for each other like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and "Blue Hawaii" became one of his most successful movies. The soundtrack was the No. 1 record in the U.S. for an astonishing 20 weeks, making it Elvis' most commercially successful LP, and one of the most successful LPs of all time.
Like most of Elvis' soundtracks, the album contains some real gems surrounded by some real dross. This 1997 reissue is remastered and remixed from the original master tapes, and includes several extra tracks. Amid such frivolities as "Rock-A-Hula Baby" (co-written by Ed Wood's girlfriend Dolores Fuller) are classic tracks like "Can't Help Falling In Love." The reissue adds the actual on-screen version of this prime Elvis ballad.

BLUESWEDE SHOES/LAWDY, MISS CLAWDY TAKE ONE - 10" SINGLE - This is a re-issue of the 1956 Rock and Roll classic Blue Suede Shoes. Due to an agreement between RCA and Sun Records Elvis' version of the song was not released as a single in the US, it was released on his first album and on an EP (Sun Records was concerned that an Elvis single of it would hurt their sales of Carl Perkins' version). Despite that, Elvis version was still a top 20 hit in the US. It was an even bigger hit overseas where it was released as a single. This release includes the orginal B-side, Tutti Frutti, plus an excellent bonus recording of Lawdy Miss Clawdy. A nice collector's item.

Viva ELVIS - The Album re-imagines the king's own vocal performances in a broad variety of new musical settings. This new sound echoes Elvis' own versatility and ability to master all music genres, from Delta blues to rockabilly, from raw soul to gospel, from Southern folk to Vegas pop, while incorporating elements of garage rock, punk, urban and hip-hop.

"What would the songs of Elvis be like if he were doing them for the first time today?," asks the album's producer and arranger Erich van Tourneau, Musical Director and Arranger for Viva ELVIS by Cirque du Soleil. "We set out to evoke the soul and spirit of Elvis Presley while building a bridge between his music and future generations of fans."

When working on the music for Viva ELVIS, van Tourneau -- aided by Hugo Bombardier, Assistant Producer and Assistant Arranger on Viva ELVIS - The Album -- spent more than 3,000 hours reviewing countless albums, films, concert recordings, interviews and home recordings of Elvis. More than 17,000 samples of Elvis' songs – the raw material for the show – were made during the process.

Working with tens of thousands of samples of Elvis' voice, van Tourneau and Bombardier often wove several sequences and sounds into the same songs, sometimes changing details such as the key and tempo. In creating Viva ELVIS - The Album, van Tourneau was looking to accentuate and boost the emotional charge of the songs with the incorporation of ragga, punk or hip-hop elements into classic recordings. In all cases, however, the goal was to respect and understand the essence of the original recordings.

In celebration of all eras of Elvis' musical genius, Viva ELVIS - The Album includes songs from Elvis' rise to fame in the '50s, his movie soundtracks, his triumphant return to the stage in the "'68 Special," and his ground-breaking appearances in Las Vegas. "Burning Love," "Suspicious Minds," "Blue Suede Shoes" and "It's Now or Never" are among the songs that have been re-imagined and transformed for Viva ELVIS - The Album.
