Here is an opportunity to purchase this very rare original UK vinyl copy of:-

The Man Who Sold The World Vinyl L. P. by David Bowie

Mercury 6338 041

Matrix Number:  6330841 1y//1^  420 1 1 4

I bought this record the very first week it was released. The cover is the original textured ‘linen effect’ cover with the picture of Bowie draped across a chaise longue in a ‘dress’.

To add a little embellishment and interest to the purchase of this record, prior to, and at the time of release I was one of David’s friends during the period he lived at Haddon Hall, Beckenham, Kent and I was privy to hearing many previews of the tracks. In fact I was asked by David to play guitar for him on this very record however, having just started up my own antique business, sadly, I was unable to accept the offer. Nevertheless, I do still play in two bands to this day and soul music was much more my thing.

To add a little more interest to the purchase of this record, through my antique business I did acquire for him the large antique leather screen which is featured behind him on the cover, so I do feel that I still have some connection with the record, even if I was unable to play on it.

The record itself has had very little play. I bought it originally because of my friendship connection with David when it was first released, more so than for the music and so it received little play. It has had no play whatsoever in the last 30 years and has been stored in a clean dry place.

Record Condition

Vinyl – at least very good, nearer to excellent, some spindle wear. I cannot see any scratches on it unfortunately I no longer have a turntable to play it on, so cannot attest to the sound quality.

Cover – at least very good, nearing excellent but some slight wear to the middle of the front opening edge and obviously general age wear.

Inner sleeve – good, a little scruffy.

Gradings taken from the Record Collector guide - I prefer to be cautious with these gradings rather than over optimistic and having had this record valued by Record Collector magazine recently I feel that the opening bid price is more than reasonable.
