Description

Dark – Dark Around the Edges – Prog Rock Vinyl album – 1972

 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You are bidding for a copy of a very rare vinyl album. The images show the album covers, record centre and booklet that accompanied the album, but do not do the item justice really.

The album is on the SIS label, catalogue number 0102, with the matrixes (markings) ‘ADM LP 791 A’ and ‘ADM LP 791 B’.

The vinyl itself is Very Good to Very Good+ quality. There are marks on the vinyl, but this has not affected the playing of the album. I have put the tracks on YouTube for you to hear the quality of the recording/playing of the album (search for Dark around the edges - track title**) – which has only been played once in the last 20’ish years to download onto CD for my own use. I have not attempted to clean the album as not sure what I'm doing and don't want to ruin it.

The album cover is a black & white gatefold style cover, and in good condition, although the hand written spine is slightly worn. The pictures are basically stuck onto the card sleeve.

The booklet is 9 pages (including cover), again black & white, single sided thick, photographic/card like paper, and stapled together.

All the photograph’s are credited to either Steve Giles, or Reg Bason (studio photos).

Considering the album is nearly 30 years old, the cover and the vinyl are in very good condition.

The Band members were Steve Giles, Ron Johnson, Clive Thorneycroft & Martin Weaver.

The album shows as being recorded at S.I.S. Studios in Northampton, in July 0f 1972.

Track List as follows:

A1 - Darkside

A2 - Maypole

A3 - Live for today

B1 - R.C.8

B2 - The Cat

B3 - Zero Time

A brief history (taken from another source) shows that the band “were formed by Steve Giles in 1968. After playing some local gigs this album was recorded at SIS Studios with recording engineer Alan Bowley over a weekend in July of ’72. The six tracks, written and arranged by the band, consist of melodic progressive rock laced with lots of fuzzy guitar riffs.”

Only a few copies were originally produced with the black and white gatefold sleeve, with more being produced with a single black and white sleeve, and some more with a colour sleeve.

The copy I have for sale was given to a family member by her boyfriend/fiancé of the time, who was, I believe, a close friend of the band.

If won, and paid for by PAYPAL, delivery will be to a confirmed address ONLY.

Postage/carrier charges in the UK will be approx. £10.00, but this will be dependant on the final value. For deliveries outside the UK, this will be dependant on the final value and destination – please advise location before bidding, so that I can quote you carriage charges.
