This is an ultra rare 1975 UK TEST PRESSING of David Bowie`s masterpiece 

YOUNG AMERICANS. 

The album was originally going to be called 

FASCINATION and indeed right here is the RCA paperwork that proves even up until the date on this paperwork 18.2.1975 David was still undecided.

I love the way this LP TOTALLY DIVIDES Bowie fans. I am talking if 

you look at it, as for exactly, what it is. It is a concept album. 

A COMPLETE BODY OF WORK . 

No less than the Philips album, The Man Who Sold The World , 

Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust , Aladdin Sane, or Low. I think Young Americans paved the way for Low simply because it pushes the fans rather than panders to them.

THIS IS DAVID BOWIE CHALLENGING YOU !!!

It was a BOWIE curve ball to throw at the fans . Just like LOW was.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of Bowie fans I know and meet.

Who simply dont "get" this LP . This is the real DAVID BOWIE. Character free ! No Ziggy Stardust, No Aladdin Sane and no Thin White duke. And they either hate it (as an album). Or they like one or two tracks only.

Or like myself , LOVE IT TO DEATH.

Its 1974 Bowie is still on the Philly dogs tour . 

Bowie defies his record company and management, bursting with enthusiasm he starts talking about his New LP "It tells you more about where I am at now than anything I could say". And goes on "This is the nearest to meeting me since the Personal Space Oddity LP". Did you get that ??? I QUOTE . "THE NEAREST TO MEETING ME" !!!!

HE TELLING US , THIS IS HIMSELF !!!

I love Bowie`s humility saying "only now has he got the confidence to sing like his Heroes Jackie Wilson James Brown" etc all the bluesy soul guys ....

Read the other passage that states as late as December 1974, Bowie told Disc magazine (thats the USA equivalant to NME) . The new LP is going to be called Fascination. As this paperwork PROVES he was still undecided even until this disc right here dated 18.2.75 a month before the albums release. Before making this LP in 74 Bowie asked Coco Schwab his PA to go and get the best 350 soul LPs ever made. He studied them all. Imagine the work in that. He was leaning his trade and it paid off. I think Young Americans is the best Soul LP ever made by anyone. I love the quote Carlos Alomar said to his old school friend Luther Vandross as they started working on the Young Americans LP "Hey Luther watch out for the skinny milky guy , he can really sing".

There is a great Documentary called 5 years look out for the interview with the backing singers Ava Cherry and Robin Clark as they describe the LPs most difficult song the MASTERPIECE "Right" Bowie pushed us really hard and would not let us change the really difficult vocals. She demonstrates the difficulty for a backing singer but says Bowie knew what he wanted and never stopped until he got it.Then they both admitted it was worth it . The end result....MAGNIFICENT.

I think this is the LP  David Bowie probably worked his hardest on . 

The rest came more naturally. I have played Young Americans 1000 times and I never bore of it and I can not get enough of it. Its better than anything by Marvin , Al Green, James Brown, Aretha or even the High Priestess Nina Simone. If your one of those that likes just a couple of tracks or less. I envy where you are at. You have this work of art still to discover.

DONT GIVE UP ON YOUNG AMERICANS. Put the work in 

you will get much more out !

The labels are in EXCELLENT order .

The RCA paperwork is in EXCELLENT condition.

There is no jacket just a generic white sleeve.

The thick slab of UK vinyl is EXCEPTIONALLY heavy and still

has a magnificent sheen . 

It has a couple of wispy hairlines that do not make a single sound it 

plays ENTIRELY without fault. It plays EXCELLENTLY THROUGHOUT 

ITS ENTIRETY. This is a REAL BEAUTY .

WHAT EXACTLY IS A TEST PRESSING ?????

When the record has been made and recorded to Acetate.

The artist , band members and the record producers and sound

engineers require a test press on vinyl, to see how the new LP

will sound before it is made to sell in the record shops. These

pressings are quality control. They are done in tiny numbers.

Once every one is happy with the way the item sounds the go

ahead is given for the Store stock copies to be pressed.

This record right here is one of the tiny few RCA RECORDS

had pressed to check quality control . So rare. Is much too inadequate

a word to describe how difficult it is to locate one of these.

It is simply my own opinion but I think this album gets overlooked. 

Whenever you see of hear anyone on TV or Radio talking about Bowie its always about Hunky Dory or Ziggy Stardust or Diamond Dogs. Rarely does the YOUNG AMERICANS  LP get any attention and that is just wrong. Bowie`s vocal on this

LP I dont think he ever bettered . He flits from one end of the scale to the other.

All over his vocal range. TOTALLY SUPERB ALL THE WAY .

IT IS A MASTERPIECE. A SOUL MASTERPIECE. A HUMBLE WHITE GUY WITH THE SOULS SINGERS AND MUSICIANS OF CHICAGO AND DETROIT SHOWING THEM HOW ITS DONE IN THEIR OWN BACK GARDEN. 

Bowie called this his Plastic Soul LP . As if its not the real thing.

I think Bowie is the faker. This is SOUL GENIUS. No Character to hide behind this is the real DAVID BOWIE . 

This is seriously rare pressing of a classic David Bowie LP.
