Incredibly rare promotional DJ copy of Bob Dylan's 7th studio album released several months before the official release for radio stations. "Blonde on Blonde" is considered to be the first double album in the history of rock music. The album was released by Columbia Records and included in the list of the greatest albums of all time by the Rolling Stone magazine. This promotional DJ copy has a 1st issue withdrawn picture cover with 9 photos inside the gatefold, including the photo of Claudia Cardinale. There is a common misconception that the photo of Cardinale was removed from the initial pressing's cover at the actresses' request. However, the photographer Jerry Schatzberg refuted this statement saying that it wasn't Cardinale's lawyers who insisted that Columbia Records remove the photo, but instead it were Dylan's agents who refused to use it. Most likely, because they didn't want the actress being used to promote Dylan. The top left corner of the cardboard gatefold cover contains an original promotional "Special Mono Radio Station Copy" rectangular white sticker next to the Columbia Records logo and C2L 41 catalog number. The bottom of the back cover has two "Columbia Records Radio Station Service Not for Resale" timing strip song titles banners. This very early promotional DJ copy was pressed at Columbia Records Terre Haute pressing plant and contains the original white two-eyes "nonbreakable" Columbia "Radio Station Copy - Not For Resale" C2L 41 catalog number "Printed in U.S.A." labels. Very early 1st pre-release pressing with the 1st matrix number in the trail-off vinyl: Side 1 - XLP113761-2F T 2; Side 2 - XLP113762-3F T 2; Side 3 - XLP113763-4D A1 o; Side 4 - XLP113764-2B B1 o. XLP113764-2B B1 o. Terre Haute, IN plant pressing as identified by the "T" stamp in the trail-off vinyl.

It's very rare to come across a cover of this album, not to even mention the promotional copy, which wouldn't be worn out. However, the cover of this promotional DJ copy is graded as Excellent and has only some very light shelf wear and corner scuffing. The cover doesn't have any splits, writing or ring wear. The interior gatefold is in Near Mint condition and doesn't have any flaws. I grade the vinyl as: Side 1 - Near Mint Minus; Side 2 - Near Mint Minus; Side 3 - Very Good Plus~Excellent Minus; Side 4 - Near Mint Minus. All of the sides are super clean and are in Near Mint Minus condition with Side 3 being in Strong Very Good Plus or Excellent Minus condition due to three hairlines, which cannot be felt with a finger nail and do not affect the playback. The vinyl sounds amazing without any skips, pops or clicks. Despite the fact that this is a white label promotional copy it even barely has any background noise. The labels are in pristine Near Mint Minus condition with the Side 3 & 4 labels having some light age discoloration. The original plain Columbia Records inner sleeves are in Near Mint condition. It's impossible to find this promotional copy in such a great condition and I'm sure you won't be seeing another copy like this any time soon.  This promotional radio station DJ copy comes from my personal collection.
